Recovery Coach (McKinney/Plano) Job at LifePath Systems
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Recovery Coach’s primary purpose is to increase the prevalence and quality of long-term recovery from substance use disorders by enhancing quality of life and increased social contributions connections through sustained engagement in long-term Recovery Support Services. Recovery coach will serve individuals with a history of substance use disorders, including co-occurring mental health disorders and opioid misuse, who are seeking recovery, along with their family members, significant others, and supportive allies. Recovery Coach will provide effective Recovery Support Services and support individual’s efforts to initiate and sustain their recovery. Recovery Coach will expand the availability and quality of recovery-oriented supports and services among recovery support service organizations. Recovery Coach will establish effective linkages between recovery support organizations, substance use disorder treatment organizations, community-based organizations, and other sources of support within the community. All services will be provided from a trauma informed, person-centered perspective.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE
- Must be 18 years of age and have either 1) a High School Diploma; OR 2) a High School Equivalency Certificate (GED) issued in accordance with the law of the issuing state.
- Additionally, must have at least one cumulative year of sobriety from any addiction and be working on own recovery.
- Must be eligible and successfully become a Certified Peer Specialist or Recovery Support Peer Specialist within 12 months of employment.
ESSENTIAL TASKS & STANDARDS
Establish and develop appropriate individual relationships of trust, hope, and empowerment by sharing own lived experiences to facilitate achievement of individual’s recovery goals. Engage individuals in Recovery Support Services.
Maintain a working knowledge of current trends and developments in the mental health and substance use field by reading books, journals, and other relevant materials and share these new skills and knowledge with our individuals.
Actively participate in supervision
Documentation of direct service time.
Complete agency training on Trauma Informed Care and have a general understanding of trauma informed care per agency guidelines.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the Recovery process and the ability to facilitate recovery using established standardized mental health processes.
- Knowledge and skill to teach and engage in basic problem-solving strategies to support individual individuals in self-directed recovery.
- Knowledge of the signs and symptoms of mental illness (i.e. auditory and visual hallucinations, aggressive talk and behavior, thoughts of self-harm or harm towards others, isolation) and the ability to assist the individual to address symptoms using strategies such as positive self-talk.
- Knowledge and skill sufficient to use community resources necessary for independent living and ability to teach those skills to other individuals with severe mental illness.
- Community resources may include but are not limited to social security office, Department of Family and Children services, local YMCA, Library, restaurants, individuals’ service organizations, housing providers, etc.
- May accompany individuals to community resources to assist them in accessing these resources.
- Knowledge of how to establish and sustain self-help (mutual support) and educational groups by soliciting input from the mental health individuals on their strengths and interests.
- Knowledge, experience, and proficiency in using standard Microsoft Office programs and systems databases.
- Strong professional verbal and written communication skills.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS
- Must have valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
- Must be able to complete all LifePath Systems training.
- Must be able to provide at least 3 professional or educational references.
BENEFITS
Salary Range: 29,000-36,000 Salary will be based on certification and training.
Shift Hours: Monday-Friday Hours will be flexible based on services being provided.
