Job Description:
The Quality Manager works under the direction of the Manager Technical Services with input from the specific Mill Manager to accomplish the Quality goals. The Quality Manager will plan, implement and supervise quality initiatives and act as an important member of the organization’s QA team as well as the paper mill management team.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Paper Science, Business Administration or Quality Management is preferred.
- Minimum six (6) years of experience in a paper mill or quality assurance role.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office programs.
- Experience with quality systems such as ISO, TQM, or Six Sigma.
- Experience using Continuous Improvement and Lean concepts.
- Experience with regulatory systems, GMP, HACCP food safety environment is a plus.
- Knowledge and ability to establish internal audit systems and ensure external audit compliance.
- Demonstrated problem solving, root cause analysis and corrective action skills.
- Demonstrated skills in leading cross functional project teams.
- Excellent written and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively throughout the Burrows organization, customers and suppliers.
- A high level of common sense and logical thought processes are required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the mill quality program; implement and maintain the ISO 9001-2008 Quality Management System, HACCP and GMP programs for the mill.
- Work with Sales and Product Development to establish quality requirements for new customers, determine customer needs and methods to meet those needs.
- Document both office and mill procedures as part of the ISO 9001-2008 or GMP program.
- Lead internal audit program for the mill. Contribute to internal audits throughout the organization.
- Investigate customer complaints, perform root cause analysis and work with the mill management team to identify and perform corrective actions.
- Perform supplier audits as required. Review and analyze certificates of conformance for raw materials. Conduct testing and report on raw material quality.
- Establish or maintain the GMP and HACCP programs for the mill location. Perform GMP and HACCP audits as defined by Corporate Quality Director.
- Benchmark best practices within and outside of TRP.
- Lead process improvement teams and manage effective change processes within the plant.
- As part of the management team, establish mill quality objectives and priorities.
- As part of a team, lead efforts to accomplish tasks associated with quality programs.
- Develop training programs as needed to support the quality key competencies (e.g. procedures, control plans, SPC, quality alerts, food safety programs).
- Perform training, communication and interact with employees on all shifts to ensure quality requirements are understood.
- Participate in developing new quality initiatives that contribute to improving plant efficiency product quality. Be an active contributor on the plant floor.
- Conduct employee step-up or on the job training reviews as the Mill Manager defines.
- Contribute to creating a right the first time approach to all Paper Group activities.
- Contribute to additional responsibilities as defined by Manager Technical Services and Mill Manager.
- Travel to customers and suppliers to perform responsibilities.
- Observing and following plant rules for safety and GMPs.
