Position Description

Are you an experienced leader with a talent for procurement and a commitment to excellence looking for a role that allows you to provide meaningful change at the City? If so, the City of Tacoma's Finance Department, Procurement and Payables Division is looking for a Purchasing Manager who understands the ins and outs of public agency procurement. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the coordination of competitive solicitation of Citywide contracts, emergency, informal and formal sealed procurement activities.

As the City implements a new procurement software, you will be a key player in ensuring your team's success by being a forward thinker and coordinating your team's efforts. You will be focused on understanding your customer's needs and identifying gaps or areas that can be improved within the new system. By championing process improvements, you'll help your team to deliver outstanding results.

In addition to your leadership and customer focus, you'll also be responsible for managing the division's budget, analyzing reports as needed, and establishing purchasing policies and procedures using best business practices. You'll play a key role in establishing standards for division operations and acting on the division manager's behalf as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Education*
Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration or directly related field

Minimum Experience*
6 years of progressively responsible procurement experience including 1 year prior lead/supervisory experience

  • Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education

Preferred Qualifications
Professional certification through accredited Public or Private purchasing/procurement organizations is desired (CPPO, CPPB, CPSM, etc.) Experience in SAP/Ariba business software or related integrated procurement software.
