Job Description:


Job Summary:


The Public Information Officer (PIO) serves as a representative to the public for the Incident Commander (IC). They work closely with the Joint Information Center JIC and provide the public with incident information. They prepare releases for the media. This position does not require relocation, but will need to be available for deployment nationwide.


Supervisory Responsibilities:


  • This Position supervises the Assistant PIOs

Job Classification: Part time, call when needed


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Follows the direction of the (IC)
  • Keeps The IC informed of any potential problems or items of note
  • Keeps the public informed
  • Represents the Public Information Officer, in their absence, in meetings and briefings.
  • May represent the IC at town hall meetings, with Stakeholders, and media

Required Skills and Abilities:


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Ability to display calmness and confidence while disseminating information required
  • Knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS) required
  • Ability to compose and present comprehensive reports and media releases required
  • Skilled in building relationships and trust with individuals required

Education and Experience:


  • Successful completion if ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 and 300 is required
  • Successful completion of the Position Specific Course within 1 year is required
  • Public Information Officer credential is preferred
  • Incident response experience is preferred
  • Prior experience serving as a Public Information Officer preferred

Physical Requirements:


  • Prolonged exposure to sitting or standing for long periods of time
  • Able to work up 12 to 16 hours per day
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
  • Must meet the physical requirements of the position up to and including 14 day deployments

Salary: $52.12 per hour

Pre-employment Requirements:


This position may be contingent upon passing a security clearance, background check, drug screen, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review, or credit check after acceptance of an offer and prior to beginning work, due to the nature of the services Chloeta provides.


Drug and Alcohol Testing:


To enforce Chloeta’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy, an employee or candidate could be subject to undergoing a drug screen and/or alcohol testing during or at the beginning of employment.


Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA):


Under the FCRA, Chloeta may request a credit check during the onboarding process. A written authorization form will be required before obtaining credit records.


Emergency Response:


Every Chloeta employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official Duty Station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official Position Description (PD). Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
