Job Description
The Virginia Department of Education’s Training and Technical Assistance Center in the School of Education is seeking an individual to work as a team member to deliver technical assistance to educators and administrators in the area of special education in 33 school divisions in southwest Virginia. The position emphasizes the integration of evidence-based practices in special education into the curriculum to meet the needs of students with disabilities. Job responsibilities include coordination and delivery of individual and classroom consultations in educational settings; coordination and delivery of regional professional development activities; dissemination of information and resources; and collaboration with the Virginia Department of Education. The position demands strong problem solving, team building, and collaboration skills; ability to communicate with teachers, therapists, paraprofessionals, administrators, families, and community service personnel; and sensitivity to the unique needs of the school divisions served by the project. Overnight travel may be required.
The mission of the T/TAC is to improve educational opportunities and contribute to the success of children and youth with disabilities. The Center provides quality training and technical assistance in response to local, regional, and state needs. T/TAC services increase the capacity of schools, school personnel, service providers, and families to meet the needs of children and youth.
Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology or related field; Experience working in a public school setting; demonstrated knowledge and expertise in effective inclusive practices; collaborative problem-solving and team building; excellent interpersonal and communication skills with adult learners; ability to manage a variety of tasks with varying intensities and priorities; ability to travel.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with students with communication delay/disorder; experience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and/or other assistive technologies.
