The LA Conservation Corps (“the Corps”) is a private, non-profit organization that has helped at-risk young adults develop themselves since 1986. To date, more than 20,000 young people have participated in the Corps classes and service projects, learning new skills while contributing to the quality of life for residents of the greater Los Angeles area.


MISSION

The primary mission of the LA Conservation Corps is to provide at-risk young adults with opportunities for success through job skills training, education and work experience with an emphasis on conservation and service projects that benefit the community.


POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Site Supervisor and Program Coordinator, the Program Leader implements homework assistance and after-school academic enrichment (club) activities for elementary and middle school students.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide academic assistance to middle school students as part of comprehensive after school experience.
  • Lead enrichment activities that connects academic learning and club activity in creative, innovative and fun way.
  • Recruit and maintain minimum number of participating students.
  • Accurately complete and maintain daily sign-ins.
  • Ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment.
  • Attend occasional Saturday/weekday trainings.
  • Mentor and act as positive role model for student participants.
  • Other duties as assigned.

INTERESTS AND ABILITIES – We are seeking program leaders with skills in one of the following:

  • Performing Arts: Dance, drama, music, drill team experience
  • Fine Arts: Painting, drawing, sculpting, clay, crafts
  • Communications: Photography, videography, journalism
  • S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math)
  • Computers and technology
  • Sports – coaching and creating team activities for large groups of students

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • AA degree and/or currently attending college.
  • Responsible, reliable, dependable, organized and professional.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with K-12 children and youth.
  • Commitment to education.

OTHER DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be COVID-19 fully vaccinated and be able to provide supporting documentation.
  • Pass a post-offer Live Scan (fingerprint/background clearance-Department of Justice) before commencing employment.
  • Employment in this position is contingent on continuance of funding for the program.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Traditional Schools - 180 days of school year per contract (LAUSD 2022/2023)
  • 15-18 hours a week; Monday through Friday. (Additional hours possible)
  • Monday thru Friday / 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (additional hours required at some schools)
  • Occasional Saturday Morning Professional Development Trainings

WAGES, BENEFITS AND EVALUATIONS:

  • Employment Status: Contract Employee
  • Hourly Rate Range: $18.00 – $19.00 per hour
  • Benefits are not provided for contract employees.
  • Performance reviews will be conducted by Program Coordinator
