What you will do at Precinct One
Harris County, Commissioner Precinct One is looking for a Program Assistant in our Seniors Program Department. This position is an integral part of the Programs Division. The Program Assistant will assist in the developing, implementing, and managing of senior enrichment programs and will also actively engage with the senior population (50 years and older). The successful candidate will be highly organized as they provide clerical and planning support for various programs, activities, trips, and events for the Seniors Program in Precinct One's Community Centers. They will also have strong communication skills as they engage with a diverse group of seniors, departments, and community partners.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide administrative support for the operations of the community center (registering and enrolling seniors for activities, responding to calls and emails in a professional manner, filing and organizing documents, entering and updating attendance for activities, and generating attendance and activity reports)

Actively participate, monitor, and track information for community programs and events.

Manage and edit the center’s monthly program calendar.

Assists in the planning and coordinating of day trips and special events.

Actively engage and communicate with seniors daily to inform them about activities, trips, and special events.

Requirements

Experience:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Proficiency in Microsoft software applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Demonstrates ability to think creatively to assist in planning for special events

Knowledge of proper compositional practices to aid in writing and proofreading

The ability to organized and mindful to meet deadlines in a timely manner

Knowledge of effective methods to engage constituents and address their concerns

Ability to present a positive image to the public

The Program Department's mission is to enhance the quality of life and access to opportunity for all residents by providing an array of programming that is: Innovative, Equitable, and Collaborative. Currently Precinct One has 7 active Community Centers that provide over 20 program areas.
About Precinct One
There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners, along with an elected county judge, serve as members of the Harris County Commissioners Court, the administrative head of the county’s government. With approximately 1.1 million residents, Harris County Precinct One is a diverse, urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct One’s multi-racial, the multi-ethnic population is roughly 39 percent African American, 37 percent Latino, 18 percent Anglo, 5 percent Asian, and 1 percent other.
Precinct One, which includes 876 miles of road, stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precinct’s territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston, including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park, and the BBVA Compass Stadium. Other notable landmarks include the 263-acre NRG Park Complex and the renowned Texas Medical Center. The Precinct is also the higher educational home to Houston Community College, Rice University, Texas Southern University, the University of Houston, and the University of St. Thomas. Precinct One manages more than 20 parks, 11 community centers, numerous hike-and-bike trails, three maintenance service centers, and several area offices, all of which provide an array of services to Precinct One residents.
