The Converting Scheduler’s core responsibility is to schedule production in a way that optimizes equipment utilization and on-time customer orders. Works closely with shipping, production leaders, sales, and customer service to prioritize work orders and customer requirements. Communicates schedules and schedule changes effectively. This position will report to the Customer Service Manager, Texas, and is based in our Fort Worth, TX plant.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and update production schedules to ensure continuous plant operations and prevent machine downtime. Communicate production schedules based on customer orders, deadlines, and sheet inventory.
  • Monitor incoming sheets and materials for Fort Worth, Dallas, and Houston plants to ensure supply for upcoming production; follow up with vendors on late orders.
  • Lead production meetings for Dallas and Fort Worth; attend for Houston.
  • Compare shipping and production backlogs with production schedule and update lineup accordingly. Communicate to team. Use backlogs and other information to identify production priorities and create lineup for each machine.

  • Uses judgment and synthesizes information from multiple sources to order sheets and other raw materials for all Texas sites. Identifies and communicates any other inputs (e.g. labor, timing) that limit needed production capacity or impact priorities. Manages WIP inventory and accuracy.
  • Uses multiple systems (CTI, Excel) to create and inform schedules for both converting equipment and hand labor.
  • Communicate with customer service, sales, shipping, and production to provide updates on issues impacting production, such as machine breakdowns, late shipments, expedited orders, or lack of supplies.
  • Ensure waste is minimized through scheduling of seamless production handoff between departments. Identifies production bottlenecks and collaborates with operations leaders to resolve.
  • Communicates accurately, effectively, and proactively to build relationships and trust with stakeholders to allow rapid problem-solving when required. Escalates issues as needed.
  • Collaborates with production, shipping, sales, and customer service to ensure current and accurate information is used to inform inventory levels and strategies.
  • Lead by example in conducting analysis of root cause and seeking to prevent future issues. Where root cause is cross-functional, collaborate with others on solutions.
  • Review prior day reports to ensure orders were successfully delivered by carriers and received by customers.


Required Skills


REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • GED/equivalent; Associate’s in a quantitative field preferred.
  • Experience working on the production floor with a cross-functional team
  • 3+ years of planning/scheduling experience, preferably in the converting industry.
  • Excellent complex problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional communication and teamwork/collaboration skills

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Excellent critical thinking and prioritization skills. Ability to gather and organize information and manage multiple, often rapidly shifting, priorities. Strong understanding of how interrelated factors impact production and priorities.
  • Understanding of the importance of accurate and up to date data in all regards – inventory, schedules and capacity limits, customer priorities, etc.
  • Action and task oriented; collaborator and team player
