Position Summary

The Product Owner is an integral member of the Product Management team that will become a subject matter expert on the software. This role will provide the business and software requirements in the form of user stories that will be used throughout the software development life cycle.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

• Develop subject matter expert level knowledge of how Hexure's software products are developed and function from a business and technical perspective.
• Research and analyze new software enhancement requests with current functionality so that enhancements can be implemented that leverage existing functionality while maintaining stability, security, and self-service capabilities of the system.
• Establish and maintain business and user requirements in the form of User Stories, use cases, and mock-ups with appropriate level of detail for the software development teams to execute on the project
• Complete individual assigned projects through the analysis, requirement gathering, story writing, story refinement, sprint management, documentation, and testing phases
• Partner with the architects, development and quality engineering to ensure all requirements are covered and quality is achieved
• Coordinate project specific communications to the project manager, project stakeholders, and the client during the major milestones of the project including project discovery, story review and approval, development milestones, delivery and testing
• Be the Product Owner for a vertically focused Scrum Team

Education and Experience Required:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field preferred; industry insurance certifications; or the equivalent years of relevant work experience required
• Minimum of 3 years of story writing and experience as a software Subject Matter Expert
• Experience in the life insurance industry, either directly through sales/marketing support, the distribution channel, or through a vendor position
• Intermediate knowledge of Life and Annuity products and concepts
• Leadership or mentor experience in executing all phases of the software development lifecycle including requirements/stories, sprint management, testing, documentation, and delivery
• Prior Agile experience writing stories is preferred
• Expert in Excel, MS word, and Powerpoin
• Experience with mock-up and design tools is desired

Professional Qualifications – Skills and Abilities Required:

• Communication skills – a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Insurance industry domain knowledge – a proven understanding of key concepts, metrics, business terms and business processes appropriate to the insurance and/or financial services sectors including but not limited to Life, Annuities, LTC, Disability, and other products.
• Interpersonal skills – a demonstrated ability to aid in the negotiation of priorities and resolve conflicts among all project participants. · Leadership ability – a demonstrated ability to be a strong leader and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Independent worker and team player– a demonstrated ability to work on the execution of deliverables (writing the requirements) independently while at the same time work in a group for validation of workflow and finalization of project details. Must be able to work well as a member of a team which can include team discussions on the best workflow for a project, review of design documents, communication between team members, and conflict management.
• Organization skills – a proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Analytical Skills – demonstrated effective decision-making and problem-solving skills. An attention to detail and accuracy is required.
• Technical Skills – a solid knowledge of Web and Desktop applications, including intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint. A general understanding of agile methodologies and practices.

Expected hours of Work:

This is a full-time position with regular office hours Monday through Friday. This position may work with the India office a few days a week and will require an earlier start to the day around 6:30MT. This position may require after work hours and occasional weekends, depending on work demands.

Travel Expectations:

This position requires domestic US travel on an average of 10% of the time, based on business needs.

Physical Demands

This position requires frequently sitting. This position may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Operation of computer and office equipment is required.
