The Wayfair Fulfillment Network team is responsible for the systems powering dozens of fulfillment centers across multiple countries and continents. We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to be a leader for the technology organization. In this role, you will be our team’s most senior technical visionary, developing our future technical strategy and roadmap, and ensuring that our teams are building a best-in-class suite of platforms.

What You'll Do:
- Drive large transformation projects such as: breaking a monolith into microservices, cloud native service adoption, global expansion, and much more.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across product and engineering to understand pain points and drive initiatives forward.
- Act as a trusted mentor and advisor to junior and senior engineers to help develop their skills while assisting them on a variety of projects.
- Advocate and guide teams towards building systems with high quality, availability, performance, scalability and automation in mind.
- Actively participate in leading and resolving incidents, using the learnings as a driver towards achieving operational excellence.
- Be a highly visible technology thought leader to the senior executive level, identifying future issues before they occur and devising mitigation strategies.
- Show a passion for innovation and results. Collaborate with technology leaders across Wayfair to set the technical vision for the company.
- Deliver code both in POCs and in production.
What You'll Need:
- 15+ years of experience in engineering, with preference for candidates with a mix of start-up and large-company experience in the supply chain domain.
- Hands-on experience driving large platform transformation projects within high-growth environments at scale.
- Significant exposure to building distributed, event driven systems.
- Excellent communication skills with demonstrated experience driving teams forward and ability to influence decisions.
- Experience with cloud environments, Kubernetes, Python, Java, Kafka, containerization, and microservices.
- Thought leadership demonstrated by speaking at tech conferences, writing tech blogs, and contributions to open source projects preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in CS or equivalent practical experience.
Candidates for this position may be based in Austin, Boston, Mountain View or Seattle and will be expected to comply with their team's hybrid work schedule requirements.
