Supervises and manages youth offenders in IIP

  • Assess and refer services needed as identified through Juvenile Intake and Assessment
  • Meet with clients, parents, school personnel, employers, law enforcement officers, service providers, travel as required.
  • Writes reports and letters, attends all scheduled court hearings, and provide testimony before the court as necessary.
  • Provide crisis intervention, strength’s identification, family support services, parenting classes, and family mediation to at-risk youth and their families and facilitate cognitive based group processing programs.
  • Attend meetings with local agencies, including churches, non-profit entities, law enforcement, the Finney County Community Health Coalition, and the Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce.
  • Schedule prevention presentations for local agencies and community members
  • Facilitate evidence-based prevention programs
  • Provide local parents education and resources on prevention, including information on identifiers and warning signs for risky behaviors
  • Collaborate with USD 457, Garden City Police Department and Finney County Sheriff’s Department and obtain current information regarding delinquent behavior and trends in Finney County
  • Compile data and complete/submit monthly program reports
  • Facilitate and support youth in the USD 457 Virtual school located in the CSC building for long-term expelled youth
  • Input all information regarding clients into Chronos.
  • *Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require.
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
  • Bi-lingual preferred.
  • Ability to communicate information concisely and accurately so others can comprehend the information being conveyed.
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports, and chronological records.
  • Ability to make appropriate decisions to ensure the safety and well-being of the youth and public.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Basic understanding of clerical procedures and systems such as recordkeeping and filing.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Skill in interviewing and obtaining information from youth, parents/guardians, law enforcement, and other outside agencies
  • Ability to efficiently manage time, plan, organize work, complete job coordination.
  • Knowledge of effective crisis intervention techniques.
  • Knowledge of techniques of supervision for juvenile offenders.
  • Knowledge of the process of the judicial system.
  • Knowledge of utilization of community resources.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local officials, employees, outside agencies and people from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds.
  • 21 years old
  • Youthful Level of Service/Case Management Inventory (YLS/CMI) certification
  • Valid driver's license
  • Kansas Detention Assessment Instrument (KDAI)
  • Qualified to access any Kansas Criminal Justice Information System (KCJIS) data
  • Not be registered on the Kansas child abuse registry
  • Not be registered on the Kansas adult abuse registry
  • MAYSI
  • Occasional overtime required
  • Occasional travel
  • Regular and reliable attendance onsite at work location

The Prevention Officer is responsible for the coordination and collaboration of prevention with local faith-based, non-profit, and grant funded organizations. The Prevention Officer shall play an active role in community prevention events and evidence-based prevention programs and presentations within the community. The Prevention Officer shall report directly to the CCMA Supervisor.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.45 - $20.25 per hour
