PREP COOK - FULL-TIME
For over 35 years, North Hill, a not-for-profit senior living community located in Needham, Massachusetts, has provided vibrant living opportunities to people 65+ by offering a host of hospitality, wellness and health care services. The Prep Cook will work with the culinary team led by the kitchen manager to prepare and present restaurant-quality entrées, and desserts utilizing fresh, seasonal, and local products.
HOURS: 40 hours per week
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES:

- Strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage time. Multitasking and attention to detail are critical to the success of this position
- Strong understanding and respect of safe operation and maintenance of professional cooking equipment
- Ability to perform a wide range of cooking methods using various techniques to comply with our diverse and consistently changing menus
- Must possess good knife skills as well as knowledge of professional cutlery and their purposes
- Must possess strong sanitation and hygiene standards
- Consistent willingness to help others when needed, always display a team player attitude
- Review menus and recipes prior to preparation of food
- Inspect special diet orders to assure that the correct diet is served to the resident
- Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc. and submit to the kitchen chef manager or food and nutrition manager
- Coordinate dining service with other departments as necessary
- Ensure that all dining procedures are followed in accordance with North Hill’s policies
- Assume the authority, responsibility and accountability of Line Cook
- Ensure that menus are maintained in accordance with established policies and procedure
- Assist in establishing food service production line to assure that meals are prepared on time.
- Process diet changes and new diets as received from kitchen or dining manager
- Prepare food in accordance with sanitary regulations as well as our established policies and procedures
- Ensure that safety regulations and precautions are followed at all times by all personnel
- Follow established Infection Control and Universal Precautions policies and procedures when performing daily tasks
- Follow daily or scheduled cleaning duties in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Ensure that the department is maintained in a clean and safe manner by assuring that necessary equipment and supplies are maintained
- Report all hazardous conditions/equipment to the Executive Chef or Sous Chef immediately
- Meets department uniform, appearance and grooming requirements
- Complies with all OSHA safety regulations, local applicable laws regarding health, safety or environment
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Culinary degree preferred but not required
- 2 –3 years’ experience in restaurant and/or hospitality industry
PREFERRED:
- ServSafe Manager Certifications
