Summary

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Community Service Technician - Police Records Technician
- Available to work Monday-Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm
- Serves as police records custodian and prepares specialized files and documents utilizing prescribed methods
- Performs data entry of criminal activity information into computerized criminal justice information systems
- Reviews and enters information into the database in accordance with State and Federal regulations
- Conducts searches, retrievals and cancellation of data in the information center, records management, files, and archives
- Retrieves data from National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) and distributes data/reports to authorized personnel
- Assigns crime codes and compiles statistical data
- Testifies in court and notarizes statements and complaints
- Logs, and maintains activity reports in preparation for filing into systems
- Verifies identity and conducts fingerprinting service and collects monetary transactions and issue receipts
- Identifies reports that have met retention limits and prepares for destruction
- Photographs, fingerprints, registers convicted sex offenders and notifies law enforcement of status.
- Updates DPS Sex Offender Website as required and conducts monthly sex offender registration
- Processes incoming mail and prepares documents for release to public, attorneys and insurance companies
- Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
- Performs other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years of experience records management
- Ability to successfully pass a typing test with a minimum of 40 WPM
- Pass extensive criminal background check and polygraph exam and evaluation
- Experience in law enforcement office
- Familiar with law enforcement terminology
- Able to obtain TLETS (Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System) and TCIC/NCIC (Texas Crime Information Center/ National Crime Information Center) Terminal Operator certification within six (6) months of employment
