The Town of Moncks Corner Police Department has an opening for a Police Captain. Under the direction and guidance of the Police Chief, the Police Captain oversees activities of the Uniform Patrol Division, Investigations, Forensic Services, and Administration. The Captain assigns, directs, supervises, and oversees duties of assigned staff; reviews job performance, evaluates, and makes recommendations as appropriate. This position coordinates and manages interagency activities and the State Accreditation process. The Captain assures that all complaints made by the public are investigated properly, handles all Internal Affairs investigations, and imposes disciplinary action when needed utilizing the Police Department’s standard operating procedures.

The Police Captain must have knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. The Captain works on an on-call 24-hour basis, and is subject to deployment into the field during emergency incidents or crises. The Police Captain’s responsibility includes the mitigation of emergencies and decision making at crime scenes which may be centered around life or death situations. The Police Captain aids the Chief in conducting investigations and overseeing special projects, and serves as the Acting Chief in the Chief of Police’s absence.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field supplemented by ten (10) years of experience in LE-1 law enforcement, some of which are at the supervisory level, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license. Must be certified in the use and maintenance of a firearm. The employee must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines and work in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities and needs.
