SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Piston Tank Manager is accountable for overseeing the Maintenance Shop, Mechanics and Lead Mechanics. They play a key role in ensuring that their maintenance department is properly trained, communicated with, follows all maintenance guidelines and SOPs, and meets the needs of the drivers. This role is also critical in ensuring the shop is OSHA compliant and follows all safety policies.
In addition, this role is responsible to support business improvement by meeting personal and departmental goals and objectives timely and effectively.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Drive a culture that can provide best in class service to our primary customer, the driver.
- Recruit, hire, retain and develop Mechanics and Lead Mechanics.
- Manage safety compliance and accident prevention for the shop.
- Ensure the shop is OSHA compliant and follow company policies and SOPs; verify online training is completed timely.
- Adhere to Maintenance objectives and meet key performance metrics.
- Communicate information to direct reports, supervisor, and other leaders as appropriate; participate in maintenance conference calls.
- Relay key issues to mechanics and stay on top of issues until resolved.
- Analyze, select and manage vendors based on cost, qualifications and availability.
- Hold vendors accountable for warranty agreements; make sure reason codes for repairs are correct and comply with warranty guidelines.
- Participate in scrap out activities, including tires.
- Responsible for Purchase Orders.
- Monitor accuracy of work orders; close work orders.
- Perform and manage the audit process to ensure compliance.
- Responsible for parts management; submit orders on a regular basis (daily, weekly).
- Manage inventory, perform inventory spot checks.
Note: These are the major functions and accountabilities required of the position and are the predominant criteria by which performance will be assessed. OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 3 – 5 years related maintenance experience required; trucking industry experience required.
- Hands on duties to include welding and designing tank specs
- Strong, demonstrated leadership capabilities, includes building effective teams; previous supervisor experience required.
- Able to understand the technical diagnoses of a repair and offer alternative solutions.
- Strong analytical ability to identify failure trends, and other costs.
- Strong computer skills in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, OneNote; must be able navigate a database and run reports.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written form (in-person, phone, e-mail).
- Effectively copes with change and is energized by tough challenges.
- Exceptional organization and follow up skills along with the ability to prioritize departmental functions in order to meet deadlines.

Experience:
- Management: 2 years (Preferred)
- Maintenance in the trucking industry: 3 years (Preferred)
