Jerry Pittman is hiring Pipe Welders in Pascagoula, MS. We are hiring 1st and 2nd class Pipe Welders in Pascagoula, MS for Shipbuilding. Must pass a hair follicle drug screen test. Testing will resume on January 9, 2023.
1st Class Description: Wage: 1st class pipe welder: $38 hr./ 2nd class $32.30 hr.; Per diem: $17.19/hr ($137.52 each day) You must work 2 hours to get any per diem and they pay for up to 8 hours each day.
Responsible for performing pipe welding procedures on Stainless Steel and Copper-Nickel pipe using Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), also known as tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding. The shipyard environment is an around-the-clock manufacturing setting. Shipyard production areas at times involve working at different heights, in confined spaces, in different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day. As with almost every position in the shipyard, a Welder may be required to work either day or night depending upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time. Ingalls stresses the practice of working safely in all situations with safety procedures meeting, and most times, exceeding industry standards. Types of metal materials with a variety of welding processes; the most basic of which are, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) also known as "stick welding” and Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW) also known as “wire welding.” Must pass military standard X-Ray welding test on stainless steel and copper-nickel in the 6G position (restricted). The pipe welding test is given in a restricted position (6 G) on a 5'' schedule 80 carbon steel pipe. GTAW (TIG) process used for root pass, 11018 electrode used for weld fill portion and cap.
Basic Qualifications for 1st Class
- Minimum 4 years of pipe welding experience
- Must have experience in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), also known as Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) also known as "stick welding”.
Once you complete all the paperwork required, we can confirm a test date, which should be on a Monday.
The following is required:
- Hands-on - On-site at Ingalls in Pascagoula, MS
- Hair Follicle Drug Screen – goes back 6 months-- results are received in 2-5 days
· Criminal Background Check-- no violent felonies within the last 7 years
There is a 7-10 day wait from the pretest to the start date.
This initial test is Restricted 6GR
While at the training center for the 1st paid week of work, you will certify on Tig, Stainless Steel, Tig Copper Nickel, and Stick Socket Welds. Those who do not certify on these 4 will be released.
