Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Physician Assistant for the Physician Assistant Studies and Practice department within the School of Health Professions. The Physician Assistant under the direction and supervision of a Licensed Physician provides health care services to patients in primary care setting. Functions collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. Maintains effective communication with staff and administration.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results for deviations from normal.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and managing infection.
  • Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
  • In conjunction with the medical staff, develops and maintains all requirements related to regulatory agencies of the local, state, and federal governments.
  • Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provisions of continuity of care.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduation from a Physician Assistant Program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).

Certifications/Licenses
  • Certification from the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • New Jersey License from the State Board of Medical Examiners-Physician Advisory Committee.
  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS) is required.
  • All requirements must be met prior to employment with Rutgers University.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Preferred Qualifications
  • Spanish speaking preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience in primary care in a resource-limited community preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be able to lift or exert force up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Clinic environment with moderate noise.

Immunization Requirements

Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply. Prospective employees should speak with their hiring manager to determine which policies apply to the role or position for which they are applying. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain a medical or religious exemption from the University will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
