REMOTE POSITION

Job Summary: The Payroll/Benefits Specialist both coordinates and completes the processing of payroll and other pertinent job duties as well as assists with various benefits questions and completing invoicing. The Payroll/Benefits Specialist is also responsible for running and formatting varied reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis or as requested by management. The Payroll/Benefits Specialist works closely with the Payroll and HR Director to ensure the departments are running smoothly and all processes and procedures are being followed.

Primary Payroll Responsibilities:
Ensures that proper policies are being followed in the department and in the field.

Ensures that applicable local, state, and federal laws/statutes are followed.

Coordinates (in consultation with Payroll Director) daily work activities; organizes and prioritizes department workload; monitors status of work in progress; and inspects completed work.

Recommends and assists in development and implementation of new and revised policies, procedures, and practices to ensure efficient and timely payroll processing.

Trains new and existing employees on payroll policies and procedures.

Assists with the fielding of employee inquiries during payroll editing and check processing.

Works closely with the Payroll Director to assist internal and external auditors during audit process by providing documents, reports and other payroll-related reports upon request.

Creates, maintains, and audits weekly Hours & Earnings reports in Excel from which payroll is generated.

Acts as liaison to Administrators and employees by answering questions, providing alternatives, and facilitating decision-making.

Works with third-party administrator(s) on all issues related to payroll processing, taxation, banking, and reporting.

Submits standard and creates ad hoc reports as requested/required.

Set up and close out of jurisdictional tax accounts as required by the business units.

Performs duties of Director of Payroll when in absence and represents Payroll Director at meetings as may be required.

Primary HR Responsibilities:
The HR Admin will assist the HR Director with the following:
HR policy and compliance

Payroll administration
Benefits administration
Benefits design and vendor management
Bonus approval and processing
Merit approval and processing
RIFs / Separations Agreements
Handbook
HR forms revisions
HRIS systems and vendor management
HR Training Curriculum
Corporate Recruiting
Processing PANs and administrative control over all payroll data except for address and contact changes
Leave of absence administration
Record keeping
DOL and other external reporting / compliance
Employment verifications

Other Functions/Responsibilities

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Payroll and HR

Qualifications:
Education:
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or 5 or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience :
Minimum of 5 years Payroll experience and 2 years Benefits experience

Experience with Prevailing Wage Reporting

Operating knowledge of and experience with ADP or similar payroll software

Technical Skills

Experience processing multi-state payroll with 800 employees for exempt and non-exempt employees

Working experience of payroll tax at the federal, state and local levels

Ability to use analysis to resolve complex payroll issues
Proficient operating knowledge and experience using MS Excel
Strong orientation to quality, continuous improvement and customer service

Physical Requirements:
Sitting at a desk for 6-8 hours a day
Working on a computer for 6-8 hours a day.
Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing.
May be required to work long and unpredictable hours.
The ability to travel as needed
