Program Description:
Public Health Solutions Sexual and Reproductive Health Centers provide a full range of sexual health and related preventive health services to women, men and teens at two centers located in Brooklyn, NY. Our services include prenatal care, contraceptive services, emergency contraception, pregnancy testing and options counseling, basic infertility services, preconception health services, STI screening/treatment and HIV screening/linkage to care. We additionally provide screening for breast cancer, blood pressure, diabetes; nutritional counseling, behavioral health risk assessments and a variety of other preventive health services.
Position Summary:
PHS seeks a Temporary Patient Care Associate (PCA) for our Brownsville Center (located at 1873 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, NY) to perform front desk clerical functions and support direct operations by facilitating a smooth patient flow.
Specifically, the Patient Care Associate will:
- Perform receptionist duties which include but are not limited to greeting patients, answering the telephone, and assisting patients seeking service-related information.
- Utilize the computer to perform related functions, which include but are not limited to generating patient registration, printing labels, entering, and updating demographic information, obtaining patient primary care provider contact information, pharmacy, and scheduling appointments.
- Determine eligibility and assist patients in the enrollment process for Medicaid and other third-party payers.
- Determine eligibility for services which includes but is not limited to checking Medicaid status/eligibility utilizing E-Paces, preparing bills and collecting fees.
- Distribute metro cards and associated functions.
- Assist in processing patient referrals which includes but is not limited to making appointments, faxing information, and completing electronic forms.
- Assist with postal related duties.
- Assist with general office (such as copying and faxing) and interoffice duties.
- Participate in on-going quality improvement initiatives to improve patient experience and services, including expansion of services.
- Performs other related tasks as required to deliver high-quality, patient-centered and efficient health care services.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Ability to relate in a welcoming, respectful, and customer-oriented fashion to both co-workers and customers.
- Experience in patient registration, insurance verification and patient triage preferred.
- Ability to enter accurately information from various sources into our electronic medical record (EMR). (Experience with eClinicalWorks a plus.)
- Ability to accurately perform arithmetic calculations (additions, subtractions, multiplications and divisions), including working with decimals.
- Ability to effectively and efficiently use PHS online systems, health insurance and NYSDOH portals as relates to this job classification.
