YMCA Camp Marston | Julian

Farm & Garden Coordinator will manage our farm programs here at Overnight Camp, managing the Compost, grow gardens, and develop our sustainability programs. This position will also assist in managing our weekend retreats alongside weekend directors.

Farm & Garden Coordinator's expected work schedule is Wednesday through Sunday.

Sound good? (We think so, too!) Here’s what you would do:

· Manage the Camp Composting Program, oversee the care of the gardens and ensure the animals at camp are cared for

· Create outdoor education and summer camp curriculum based around sustainability, help install permaculture

· Assist with weekend group retreats

· Act as primary contact for parents, camp leadership, and camp staff

· Assess camp activities and work with camp director for continued improvement

· Ensure program areas in camp and off site have adequate supplies, and are in good safe operating condition

· Create and administer evaluations of programs and events to track changes in attitudes and knowledge about program

· Play a key role in staff training, and demonstrate proficiency through practical teaching in educational classes and recreation activities such as archery, surfing, climbing, and other skills common to the camp setting

“OK, I’m sold!” What do I need to qualify?

· Minimum 21 years of age

· Experience managing gardens and understand concepts composting systems

· A degree or certification in child development, education, recreation, or a related field preferred

· Must have experience in curriculum development, staff supervision and program implementation

· Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to respond swiftly in an emergency situation

· Must have current driver's license with clear driving record

· This position requires living on-site

  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
  • American Red Cross
  • American Heart Association
  • American Safety & Health Institute

Job Types: Contract, Part-time

Pay: $104.23 per day
