    GENERAL SUMMARY
      The Orthopedic Technologist functions under the direction of orthopedic physicians and/or in collaboration with other members of the health care team (e.g. ATC, RN) to support the clinical functions of the service area. The Orthopedic Technologist performs procedures that include but are not limited to setting and removing casts, applying splints and braces, and providing wound care in the orthopedic clinic environment. Reports to designated Manager/Director.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Applies, adjusts, and/or removes casts and splints utilizing patient protection procedures as designated by Physician or Physician Assistant. Performs cast adjustments, repairing, bivalving, wedging, and windowing of casts. Provides education for patient/family in care of the cast, splint, or brace.
    • Measures and fits patients for orthopedic braces, devices and ambulatory aids and instructs patients/families regarding care and proper use.
    • Removes dressings, sutures, staples, and pins related to internal and external fixation.
    • Applies appropriate dressings to surgical and other wounds as directed by Physician or Physician Assistant.
    • Assists in the management of multiple patient reported outcome surveys.
    • Screens and collects data to coordinate and support medical services for the provision of safe and timely patient care.
    • Demonstrates safe and effective delivery of clinical services and tasks under the direction and continuous supervision of a licensed health care provider.
    • Provides appropriate clinical and non-clinical information to facilitate visit process.
    • Maintains sterility and cleanliness of the environment.
    • Maintains supplies, equipment, and instruments.
    • Supports and performs clerical functions as needed.
    • Maintains continued competency of professional performance, knowledge, and skill as evidenced by professional development and current knowledge related to all aspects of practice.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • Current Orthopedic Technologist – Certified (OTC) certification through the National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologists (NBCOT) or registration as a Registered Orthopedic Technologist (ROT) through the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP), required.
    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • One to two years of experience in a related healthcare field preferred.
    • Maintains continuing education requirements for certification and/or registration.
    • CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
    • Must provide a certificate from the NBCOT or ASOP indicating current certification or registration status, and a copy needs to be kept on file in the HR and department files.
    WORKING CONDITIONS
      Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
