Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Ombudsman Volunteer Coordinator

The Ombudsman Volunteer Coordinator is with the KanCare Ombudsman Office with the Office of Public Advocates. This position requires you to work in the office located in Overland Park, Johnson County.

The Volunteer Coordinator position is assigned the following primary duties and responsibilities:

KanCare Volunteer Coordination: The employee is responsible for coordinating and supporting both the Kansas City and Wichita Satellite offices. The employee supervises the KC Metro office. The employee serves as the subject matter expert for staff and volunteers to refer to when regular position or circumstances arise. This requires the employee to answer the phone, check emails, and/or travel to volunteer sites. The incumbent may provide additional assistance to volunteers or stakeholder as the situations arise. Provide assistance, consultation, and technical assistance for volunteers as needed and when requested. Work collaboratively with supervisor at the Wichita satellite office to promote best volunteer training, mentoring, ongoing education and review of volunteer skills.

KanCare Volunteer Education and Training: The employee will develop, update, and oversee ongoing strategies for training, resources, and advocacy. Training will be completed by staff and volunteers prior to their beginning to work with the public. The employee researches, develops and updates training tools including but not limited to presentations, reviews, tests/quizzes with final approval from the supervisor. Training may be given through various media such as face-to-face or computer-based training.

KanCare Volunteer Staffing: The employee is responsible for recruitment, screening, interviewing, onboarding and training of volunteers. The employee assists the Wichita office supervisor with these responsibilities, providing training and backup.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED and one year of experience organizing and coordinating volunteers in community programs and organizations. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Must pass a background check.
