About the Company

Penderlea Farms is a 575-acre family owned farm located in Burgaw, NC. We're on a mission to preserve and repopulate the Historic Style Live Oaks in Southeastern, North Carolina. We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of best practices in the industry and harvest our acorns from some of the oldest and most famous trees in the area.

Through partnerships with Airlie Gardens and other environmental non-profits in the area, we aim to raise awareness about the importance of the Historic Live Oak to our natural landscapes. We grow our trees to have the sprawling, majestic, flair that has become synonymous with our local scenery. We are excited for our trees to be enjoyed for generations to come while providing a living connection to the giant ancestors from which they descended.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee production and growing of Live Oaks that are container grown.
• Coordinate production labor scheduling, space and location planning, and management of workforce accounting for given weather conditions, equipment availability, and other seasonal factors.
• Follow best horticulture practices to produce and maintain high quality, healthy plants, and growing facilities
• Assures all safety rules and policies are in place and followed
• Maintain proper inventory management including odering chemicals, soils & containers so there is proper inventory on hand.
• Maintain irrigation schedules and systems for proper seasonal schedules and continual maintenance
• Conducts daily crop scouting, looking for weeds, pest or irrigation related issues. must have pesticide license.

Key Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in container nursery stock production.
• Must have extensive knowledge of pesticide practices and irrigation
• Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or related field- preferred
• Strong organizational and planning skills
• Self-starter, works well under pressure, ability to multi-task
• Computer literate,
• Ability to obtain NC Pesticide applicators license
• Must have experience managing Integrated Pest Managemnt (IPM) programs including planning, implementation, and follow up
• Ability to work in inclement weather
• Excellent communication skills, bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus
• Analytical and inquisitive, not afraid to ask questions or offer new ideas

Other Requirements:

• Must have reliable transportation
• Willingness to work weekends as needed
• Able to repetitively bend, stretch, reach, lift, stand, and walk with unrestricted motion. Able to remain on feet for majority of the day. Can lift 50 pounds or more with or without accommodations

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday

Supplemental pay types:

• Bonus pay
