Summary
This position is responsible for the overall operation of the New Goods department, including the purchase, presentation, and sales performance analysis of new goods merchandise; must ensure all retail locations are adequately stocked with new goods and merchandising is attractive to the public.
Essential Job Functions
- Purchases new goods for all retail stores. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Researching, building relationships with, and negotiating with vendors.
- Purchasing new goods to supplement the donated goods program, and ensuring that the new goods program falls within established performance expectations.
- Participating in buying trips outside of the local area.
- Monitors inventory and profitability of new goods. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Analyzing sales performance of new goods to maximize the profitability of all categories.
- Overseeing flow of inventory for all locations utilizing the Point of Sale (POS) system.
- Supports visual presentation of merchandise, including but not limited to:
- Working with the retail director and store managers in maintaining presentation and space allocation standards. Visits stores to assist with pricing, merchandising, stocking of new goods.
- Establishing seasonal set dates throughout all locations to assure consistency whenever possible.
- Reviewing distribution plans with the retail director to promote consistent displays in the stores.
- Coordinating pricing and signage for new goods at all locations to maintain consistency and to provide customers with a positive in-store experience.
- Communicating changes and updates in new goods merchandise presentation to stores.
- Manages pricing integrity and accurate recording of new goods, including but not limited to:
- Verifying accurate receipt of goods.
- Confirming invoicing to ensure proper payment.
- Ensuring accurate inventory recording. Assists with store inventories when and where needed.
- Monitoring pricing to ensure margins are within guidelines.
- Event support requiring occasional Saturday hours.
- High school or equivalent education.
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills in dealing with customers and employees.
- Enhanced Excel skills
- Clear verbal communication skills and ability to give and follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and make responsible decisions.
- Ability to use good judgment and think quickly and rationally in difficult or stressful situations.
- General retail store conditions. Exposed to moderate noise levels.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, push, and reach for extended periods of time.
- Regularly lift and carry up to 30 pounds; heavier lifting occasionally needed.
- Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on cash register and related store equipment.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
