Network Engineer

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Plan, engineer, design and coordinate buildout of outside and inside fiber plant facilities.
• Work with the network engineering team on DWDM fiber design and implementation.
• Work with network engineering and business services teams to implement solutions for commercial customers.
• Work with network engineering on GPON and active fiber customer provisioning.
• Project management for new and existing projects.
• Maintain safe work habits and conditions per regulations and policies. Provide on-going safety and educational training sessions for the fiber team.
• Understand outside plant construction techniques and standards and ensure company designs comply with all relevant requirements.
• Negotiate, implement, and manage contracts with external contractors. Ensure compliance with contracts and timelines.
• Oversee aerial and underground construction.
• Develop mitigation and restoration methods for emergency conditions such as fiber cuts, power failures, and other network failures. Develop proactive approaches to damage prevention.
• Participate in providing a budget for the implementation of designs, new services, technology, and industry requirements.
• Monitor fiber construction employees and contractors.
• Assist customer installation team with fiber facility assignments and access.
• Requisition material and supplies for projects and ongoing needs.
• Implement permits and renew as necessary.
• Conduct field surveys for underground and aerial construction.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

• Read, interpret, and modify construction and survey documents both in electronic and printed form.
• Knowledge of surveying and construction staking.
• Knowledge of construction safety and related legal requirements.
• Knowledge of construction contract documents, drawings, specifications, and scheduling
• Ability to work CAD, GIS, and project management systems.
• Knowledge of CWDM, DWDM, and GPON networks

Work Environment:

The work environment is a mix of office and field locations. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copier, scanner, fax, etc. Field work will be required.

• Capability to think logically, define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in various forms.
