Reports to: Middle School Director
University Prep is seeking an engaging and compassionate Middle School Debate Coach to help us advance our vision of being an inclusive community of learners that provides an outstanding education for each individual in a diverse student population. Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision, provide instructional and supervisory leadership as the debate coach of beginning and intermediate competitive teams for middle school students, and to work with the team on logistics for local tournaments.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Schedules after school practices twice a week on campus
- Teaches debate skills necessary for effective performance in the activity assisted by Upper School student coaches
- Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining communications with coaches from other schools participating in the program
- Registers team/s for the competitions through the Seattle University website and arranges for payments with assistance from the Middle School Division Director
- Schedules and participates in full day debate tournaments three or four times in the season
- Arranges supervision and food of students for on campus tournaments with support from the MS Division Director
- Assists with research for student speeches and / or debate cases; assist with editing students written work
- Helps students manage their time
- Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the schools documents
- Since safety and security are everyones responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university preferred
- Experience with debate strongly preferred
- Experience working with middle school students preferred

- Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft Windows or Mac environment using Office, master common automated systems for record keeping, and learn new technology
- Comfortable with operating Audio/Visual equipment
- Ability to demonstrate body movements
Compensation & Benefits
Salary stipend of $1000. This position is eligible for statutory benefits only.
