• 36 hours/week; 12hr shifts
• 13 week contract from start.
• Every Other Weekend
• Yes Float - two units
• No holidays (unless worker is interested) No on call

Duties:

This position functions under the supervision of the Unit Directors or Nursing Supervisors. Provides support services for the professional nursing staff and is responsible for the routine functions of patient care under the direction of the professional nurse. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. May be assigned to any inpatient unit, Blake or Access to meet patient care needs

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Complies with patient care decisions made by the professional staff and accepts responsibility for following instructions, fulfilling assignments and learning from feedback. Observes and reports patient's conditions, behavior, reaction to treatment and complaints to the nurse.
• Assists patients with daily living activities (i.e.; feeding and dressing patients).
• Transfers, escorts, transports, and ambulates patients.
• Conducts patient search at admission, upon return from pass, or as clinically indicated, under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Inspects and handles belongings and valuables of patients to ensure that prohibited material is not brought into the hospital.
• Obtains and documents vital signs, including: temperature, pulse, respiration, intake and output, and blood pressure.
• Collects laboratory specimens.
• Completes attendance checks. Assures patients have wrist bands.
• Responds to emergencies in an appropriate manner.
• Assists in seclusion and restraint of agitated patients.
• Documents data on seclusion, restraint, precaution, and 15/30 minute check sheets.
• Ensures that paperwork is completed accurately and within procedural time limits.
• Effectively participates with treatment team and positively supports patients' plans for continuing care.
• Provides input to Unit Director or Nursing Supervisor regarding unit-based PI measures based on concerns, high risk, high volume issues.
• Maintains a safe and orderly work/patient care environment.
• Knows where all emergency supplies and equipment are located and obtains them when necessary.
• Immediately reports all environmental and safety hazards per policies and procedures.
• Handles and disposes of infections and hazardous materials per policies and procedures.
• Models the I CARE standards of behavior
• Maintains standards of behavior as established in the Organizational Ethics and Codes of Conduct Policy
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Skills:

• This position will be working at HMH's Behavioral Health Clinic (Carrier Clinic) - facility specializes in Addiction Treatment programs, Detox Programs, Adolescent & Teen Psychiatric In-Patient Services (ages 12-18), Children's Behavioral Health and Psychiatry, Adolescent/Teen Residential Treatment, General Adult Psychiatric Care and Older Adult Psychiatric & Dual Diagnosis (ages 60+).
• Must have a minimum of 1-year prior experience working as a Mental Health Tech in a behavioral health care facility.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules and manuals. Ability to write routine and daily reports. Effectively present larger amounts of information to patients, clients, and other employees of the organization.
• Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and divide and multiply by 10's and 100's.
• Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed oral or written instructions. Ability to deal with problems that have few variances.
• Ability to turn on a computer, log onto the system, read and reply to e-mails, download attachments, basic knowledge Microsoft Office, basic knowledge and use of the internet.

Education:

• HS diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/ university in social work, psychology, nursing or related field preferred.
• BLS (AHA) required.
