About Hero Journey Club:

Hero Journey Club (www.herojourney.club) provides community-based mental health support inside of virtual gathering spaces to address loneliness and mental health for young adults (aged 15-35). We host weekly group sessions inside of video games like Minecraft to meet members where they already spend time, facilitated by trained therapists with expertise in evidence-based care.

We are building the social scaffolding to improve the emotional/mental health of every community. We are creating the infrastructure for modern communities to improve mental wellbeing through connection and belonging; the next generation of mental health tools, for the next generation. Scope of Role & Responsibilities

Engage, educate, and support our community by:

• Facilitating subclinical psychoeducation events, check-ins, etc to keep our members engaged in between sessions with our Journey Guides

• Engaging daily in the Discord server by encouraging members in their goals, reacting to their content, and building connections between members

• Supplying mental health content as necessary in the community to promote good mental health practices

• Answering community questions in an online forum space

• Leading events for community members, which can have an emphasis in mental healthcare or just social community building

• Addressing any community concerns or suggestions

Moderate an online Discord server by:

• Having detailed knowledge of the server rules and expectations. MHA’s are expected to apply rules judiciously in order to maintain a safe, secure, positive, and productive environment for our members.

• Reading the content posted within our Discord server regularly to identify problematic content and then discuss appropriate behaviours with our members.

• Muting or banning members as appropriate when they are in strong violation of community rules

• Identifying and eliminating any spam content

• Mediating conflicts within the community with a kind and positive approach

A Mental Health Advocate should:

• Have a foundational knowledge in mental healthcare

• A mental health advocate should be at least 2 semesters established into their MA graduate school program

• Have a positive and warming energy that welcomes community members into a space

• Have a strong foundation in creative problem solving and conflict resolution

• Provide strengths-based care while building strong rapport

• Build an accepting and welcoming atmosphere regardless of personal beliefs

• Feel comfortable de-escalating potential crisis situations

• Have strong written communication skills

Required Education, Training & Professional Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field

• At least 2 semesters in a Master’s or Doctorate level graduate school program in Psychological Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, or Professional Counseling, or similar preparation from an accredited university

• Experience with digital platforms and remote models of care a plus
