Medication Safety Pharmacist

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Utilizes medication variance reporting tools and prepares trending reports on medication safety events and adverse events for discussion at the Medication Safety Subcommittee
• Monitors the external environment for safety signals regarding medications utilized by MGB patients
• Identifies problem prone or high-risk areas to target for performance improvement
• Manages the system medication safety alert and recall/withdrawal process
• Manages the system Medication Safety Committee (sub-Committee of Pharmacy & Therapeutics)
• Develops and revises system medication safety-related policies, guidelines, and protocols

Qualifications

• PharmD (or equivalent) with ability to obtain license in state of Massachusetts
• Completion of ASHP accredited residency; fellowship; or advanced degree Experience related to principles of medication use safety, culture of safety, medication error reporting systems, human factors, performance improvement and risk management
• Knowledge of relevant regulatory environment
• Knowledge or experience with evidence-based, cost-effective practice in areas related to pharmacy
• Quantitative and analytic skills to support strategic decision making
• Strong interpersonal skills to enable pharmacy and formulary collaboration across MGB enterprise

• Possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with cross functional teams including staff at all levels of the organization
• Ability to successfully negotiate and collaborate with others of different skill sets, backgrounds and levels within and external to the organization
• Strong problem solving and negotiation skills
• Ability to effectively conduct meetings, both formal and informal
• Requires minimal direction from leadership and possesses the ability to learn quickly

Other Responsibilities and Working Conditions:

• No direct reports; may indirectly provide leadership and guidance to less seasoned and new staff
• No direct budgetary responsibility
• Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by effectively using Mass General Brigham resources
• Possible local travel to Mass General Brigham sites
• The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Normal office working conditions. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.
