Medical Assistant (MA) Job at The Conrad Pearson Clinic
The Medical Assistant is responsible for performing all routine nursing care as directed by the physician(s). Assist with other duties necessary to the efficient functioning of the office, such as diagnostic procedures, reception and medical records procedures. In addition, the Medical Assistant ensures efficient services for the physicians and quality service to the patients in adherence with expectations set by The Conrad Pearson Clinic.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform basic nursing care, i.e., checks in patients, takes and records vital signs, procures all needed medical supplies, obtains and properly cares for specimens; cleans and stocks exam rooms; cleans and sterilizes instruments; cleans and checks equipment for proper functioning.
- Assist physicians with various procedures such as cystoscopies, stent removals, urethral dilations, ultrasounds (renal, bladder and prostate), prostate biopsies, cystometrograms, bladder instillation, etc.
- Administer injections as directed by physician, following proper procedure, mixing medications correctly, completing and/or documenting in the medical record, obtaining physician’s initials.
- Assist physicians in preparing for minor surgery (vasectomies, penile lesions, etc.)
- Schedule office, hospital and/or follow-up procedures; patient education and teaching.
- Triage patient calls, consulting with physicians as necessary; calling patients with test results, calling in prescriptions.
- Perform general laboratory duties, to include venipuncture, injections, microscopy preparations, preparing specimens for outside laboratory.
- Help maintain all clinical supplies.
- Demonstrate the ability to concentrate during the course of the day, and demonstrate a positive outlook with a helpful, constructive manner when working with other employees.
- Ensure complete compliance with all regulatory requirements, to include OSHA, CLIA, universal precautions, etc.; practice safe, high-quality patient care; immediately and accurately document and reports occurrences to supervisor; and ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements as outlined in the corporate compliance plan.
- Maintains physician/patient relationship through diplomatic and tactful management of patients; communicates all appropriate information to patient as directed by physician.
- Identifies and responds to operational issues addressed by the physicians or CPC corporate administrative office.
- Demonstrate dependability in attendance, punctuality in reporting for work, and initiative in completing a full work schedule, meeting or exceeding all established deadlines, and utilizing all resources and supplies efficiently and appropriately.
- Support, enforce and adhere to all company policies, procedures and management decisions.
- Maintain confidentiality of patients’ medical information and all administrative and/or personnel related confidential issues.
- Communicate regularly with supervisor, keeping him/her apprised of all pertinent information and providing feedback.
- Demonstrate superior patient relations and interpersonal skills; demonstrate an appropriate level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with staff, patients and general public, using tact, sensitivity and sound judgment; and promote a positive work environment and contributes to the overall team efforts of the office and company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Medical assistant certification.
- Two to three years of nursing experience, preferably in a urology practice; phlebotomy/venipuncture experience required.
- CPR certification is required.
- Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to plan, schedule, prioritize and complete multiple tasks and demands.
- Valid Driver’s license, dependable automobile and current auto insurance for occasional travel.
- Occasional overtime/weekend work required.
