This position is part of the Marmon Rail Division and will be assigned to a repair shop location either at Union Tank Car Company or Transco Railway Products, Inc. - North America locations, or Procor, at one of their Canadian locations or work remotely. This position will report to the Materials Management Leader in their assigned region.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Material Support Specialist primary function is to provide support to all Site Materials team members. The position is regional and will report to the associated Materials Management Leader. Primary concerns will be to establish solid onboarding training methods and processes for Material Team member retention and knowledge. Best practices established by the Director of Materials Management will be the focus to establish standardized training. This position will require travel to perform face-to-face training of new team members and to promote process standardization.
Primary responsibilities and/or essential functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Assists in the maintenance of the “Materials Process Playbook” to be used by all locations along with assisting to develop a plan to introduce, implement and monitor standardized processes system-wide. The Materials Process Playbook will have continuous improvement plans including IT systematic solutions and recommendations on upgrades and new bolt on programs.
  • Develops and formalizes written training plans for every position in Materials. Training plans will include curriculum, mentors, timelines, and signoffs to ensure comprehension.
  • Guides and coaches’ Materials Managers and key staff at key locations including monitoring and making recommendations on needed training and CI projects for best efficiencies.
  • Establishes and maintains excellent relationships with Site Material team members to achieve high levels of service and retention.
  • Maintains compliance knowledge with all applicable AAR regulations covering materials to support Plant audits.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and presents action plans based on facts and data to improve material processes.
  • Travels to shops to provide training and to promote process standardization (as required).
  • Participates in and actively supports Quality projects, activities and Responsible Care initiatives to ensure that the Company achieves its goals.
SKILLS/SPECIFICATIONS:
  • Committed to operating within a safety-centric environment, which includes working safely and taking action when unsafe practices/conditions are identified within the plant.
  • Management and team-building experience. The ability to build and supervise a highly functional team is critical.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and tasks.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, bill of materials, part dimensions, and tolerances as well as the application of Lean Material Management principles.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical operations and calculations.
  • Experience with consignment inventory, receiving, and quality best practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to wear safety equipment such as, but not limited to, safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hats, hearing protection, and respirators.
  • Ability to see and hear the visual and audio safety warnings in the plant.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and stretch to perform tasks.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with all material programs
  • Ability to Travel up to 30%
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years of related work experience in a corporate environment.
