Program Overview
The Climate Aligned Industries (CAI) program works to decarbonize heavy industry and heavy transport. We collaborate with a global network of businesses, financial institutions, policymakers, and community-based organizations to facilitate and scale emissions reductions in these industrial sectors. Through a new grant, CAI is catalyzing Clean Industrial Hubs, or regional clusters of industrial decarbonization projects powered by local renewable energy, in Houston, TX, and Los Angeles, CA.
The Position Overview
RMI is seeking a Manager to support the development of the two Clean Industrial Hubs. Specifically, this person would be responsible for managing resources, budgets, and staff on projects; interfacing with internal and external stakeholders; developing project deliverables; and ensuring that projects have impact in Houston and Los Angeles. Projects might include working with land owners to build fueling and charging stations for trucks; or with port terminal operators to electrify equipment; or with industrial facility owners to directly electrify.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement scopes of work, budgets, and workplans for Clean Industrial Hubs projects in TX and CA
- Manage and mentor staff (1 directly, 8-10 indirectly) to deliver on-time and on-budget project deliverables
- Interface with internal and external stakeholders, including developing agendas, hosting meetings and workshops, and managing relationships with partner organizations
- Contribute to project design and delivery, including contributing subject matter expertise about industrial sectors (aviation, shipping, trucking, cement, chemicals, steel) and/or about renewable energy (clean hydrogen, renewable electricity, low carbon fuels)
- Measure projects’ impact qualitatively and quantitatively, capturing case studies, best practices, and lessons learned and evaluating numerically projects’ impacts on emissions, energy production, jobs, and investments
- Develop external communications materials as needed to support the team’s strategies, including products such as blogs, op-eds, talking points, slide decks, and public speaking engagements.
- Manage and mentor staff (2-4), developing a cohesive, enthusiastic, supportive, and high-performing team culture
- Demonstrate organization-wide values, helping maintain a culture of impact, accountability, and entrepreneurship and commitment to equitable climate action.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional work experience including at least 1+ year as a team manager
- Experience managing projects, including leading staff, developing scopes of work, and tracking budgets and workplans
- Excellent interpersonal skills, writing and verbal communication and organizational skills
- Excellent work references
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with project implementation, specifically infrastructure projects, facility construction or retrofitting, and fleet management
- Experience managing complex and diverse stakeholder groups
- Excellent problem-solving capabilities
- Capacity to pick up technical concepts quickly
Location:
We are a remote-ready company with team members around the globe. Our beautiful and welcoming offices are available for meetings or focused work, whether you are traveling through or living nearby.
Please note that this position has a strong preference for the candidate to be based near Houston, TX, or within the state of California. This will be further discussed throughout the interview process.

We love seeing each other in person! We occasionally gather for shared time together like retreats and learning experiences. Be ready to travel for occasional in-person meetings (and of course, we cover travel costs). Some roles may require more travel, which will be discussed during the hiring process.

Compensation:
RMI compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new Managers join at the minimum to mid salary range of $103,000-$121,000. You would also have an additional 10% bonus target!
