REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: LICENSURE:

Diagnostic Imaging Manager ARRT (R) or ARRT (R)(M)

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

2. Maintain an ARRT License in good standing.

3. Graduate from MQSA and/or State of Michigan approved training program in Mammography.

4. Complete continuing education credits (CEU’s) as mandated by the ARRT (24), report them on a bi-annual basis to ARRT and to the Imaging manager of SCH as they are completed.

5. Complete 5 CEU’s per year in Mammography for registration and regulatory agencies.

6. Flexibility to work overtime and on-call as needed.

7. Obtain and maintain BCLS certification as required by Sheridan Community Hospital.

8. Ability to work under pressure, relate to patients, hospital staff and visitors.

9. Ability to work independently: Transport patients and communicate effectively with patients, co-workers and physicians/providers.

10. Basic computer skills.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

1. Knowledge of Radiographic examinations as well as procedures that require the use of contrast materials.

2. Knowledge of Radiographic equipment operation and radiation safety.

3. Knowledge of basic Mammographic equipment.

4. Knowledge of Mammographic positioning, including breast augmentation views.

5. Knowledge of proper patient transfer techniques.

6. Ability to work independently.

7. Ability to take and follow explicit directions from physicians/providers.

8. Open, accurate and responsive communication, oral or written, on an individual basis or in groups.

9. Ability to handle multiple tasks/projects and meet deadlines.

Requirements:

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performance responsibilities for the X-Ray/Mammography Technologist are:

1. The X-Ray/Mammography technologist assists the Imaging manager, radiologist and physician/provider in providing good care to patients.

A. Consult with the radiologist as needed.

B. Maintain continuing education requirements for continued professional registration.

C. Communicating with patients to obtain an accurate medical history.

D. Administer Ionizing Radiation in the production of Radiologic/Mammographic Imaging studies.

E. Select appropriate technical factors for each individual patient and study.

F. The ability to properly position patients for both radiologic and mammographic studies.

G. Have a good understanding of radiation protection and practice these in accordance with radiation protection guidelines.

H. Be able to properly document the patient’s medical history.

I. Have a good understanding of and practice Infection Control guidelines.

J. Be able to perform studies on physically and mentally challenged patients, knowing when to request assistance if necessary.

K. Ability to practice good sterile technique.

L. Manual dexterity sufficient to perform examinations, observe patients, hear equipment alarms and read physician orders.

M. Perform clerical duties.

N. Perform other departmental related duties as required.

O. Assist in maintaining a clean, safe environment for patients and co-workers.

P. Transport patients to and from one department to another for treatment/testing in a safe manner while protecting their privacy.

Q. Assists patients to dress, un-dress and remove or re-apply medical wraps or braces that they present to the Imaging Department with, already in place.

R. Ability to maintain confidential information (HIPAA).

S. Be considerate of the patient’s needs.

T. Ability to accurately enter patient information into PACS as well as the EHR.

1. Perform clerical duties such as answering the phone, taking accurate messages, scheduling appointments, completing forms as well as other miscellaneous paperwork, taking inventory, making reminder phone calls to patients.

2. Assists in good public relations by developing good interpersonal relationships with patients, physicians/providers and visitors as well as hospital personnel.

The X-Ray/Mammography technologist coordinates and performs various clerical, radiologic and mammographic procedures that require independent judgement in regards to administering ionizing radiation to patients.

Sheridan Community Hospital upholds the guidelines of CMS Mandate; COVID19 Vaccination Documentation is a requirement of this position. You will be required to submit proof of vaccination or submit Medical or Religious Exemption Application for review. You must receive approved status by the Human Resource & Employee Health departments in order to obtain employment at Sheridan Community Hospital.
