YWCA owns and manages over twenty buildings in King & Snohomish County. The Facilities Technician will be responsible for maintaining multiple aspects of facility maintenance for the diverse portfolio of YWCA buildings. You will also use a variety of skills to perform common duties which assure the safety of our tenants and staff. You will help oversee the general and detailed maintenance program as well as working closely with fellow staff and vendors to provide critical coordination, communication and information for the safe and efficient functioning of facilities and housing.

This position has a social justice component that will require critical thinking around how the external systems impact the work that we are doing through the lens of racism and intersections with poverty. Knowing the core principals of antiracism work and grounding those principles in everyday work, as well as working well in non-white environments and championing anti-racism policy, are required job skills and core values. Department Responsibilities:

  • Complete work orders within the expected timeframe according to YWCA policy and standards. Track and record process.
  • Assist when needed with painting, drywall, plumbing repairs, troubleshoot electrical, ballast changing, cleaning, rekeying, light carpentry repairs and general repairs to all building systems of common areas.
  • Assist and support in the administration of all maintenance related functions including tracking of inventory, data entry, and maintaining safety records within YWCA documents.
  • Assist the Ops Manager in managing all aspects of the community’s physical upkeep including common grounds, common areas, and amenities to keep areas clean, operational, and safe for all residents and employees.
  • Assist in scheduling or performing proper testing and maintenance of community systems including pumps, boilers, fire control systems, elevators, backup generators, smoke, and carbon monoxide detector systems in units.
  • Assist in scheduling and performing regular inspections of the community and preventative maintenance inspections (PMIs) in units, as well as common areas.
  • Oversee contractors when professional services and repairs are necessary.
  • Follow up on unresolved customer service issues to ensure resolution and resident satisfaction in your assigned areas of YWCA.
  • Promptly and professionally respond to after-hours emergency calls as assigned if needed.
  • Brainstorm ideas, suggestions, and recommendations with the team during weekly meetings.
  • Ensure all communication projects, messages and requests are within the overall strategy and aligned with company-wide messaging throughout YWCA.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with co-workers, volunteers, vendors, residents, and clients.
  • Obtains and reviews price quotes for the procurement of parts and services for projects.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Able to travel between YWCA locations on a regular basis
  • Is available on-call for building emergencies
  • Communicates regularly with Senior Manager.
  • Incorporates the YWCA’s Social Justice Initiative by understanding how racism, sexism, classism and other oppressions intersect and are embedded in institutions.
  • Continues search for understanding of racial, gender and class equity.
  • Adheres to all Volunteer Services protocol relative to volunteer usage, recognition and monitoring.
  • Assures that clients, staff, volunteers and community partners are treated with respect and dignity regardless of race, ethnic background, gender or socioeconomic background.
  • 5+ years’ experience in residential maintenance and remodeling.
  • Ability to work effectively with a team as well as independently.
  • Experience assisting with internal facility initiatives/projects.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex tasks and maintain composure under pressure.
  • Strong customer-service attitude is a must.
  • Experience with electronic work order systems.
  • Experience working with communities of color and people from different cultures than your own.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the intersection of racism and poverty.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance required.
