Overview
Responsible for upkeep and routine cleaning and maintenance of Salvation Army property and vehicles. This is a full time regular position with a workweek expectation of 40 hours per week. The anticipated wage will be $20/hr.
Responsibilities
This job description is not all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential duties of the position. Other duties, responsibilities and tasks may be assigned by the Program Director II.
- Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors and clients; respect of others’ property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates.
- Support the Mission of The Salvation Army by treating every client, donor, and colleague with respect and dignity, and without discrimination of any kind.
- Perform routine vacuuming, cleaning, mopping and scrubbing on a regular schedule to maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions.
- Collect and empty trash and recycling bins daily.
- Assist in wall washing, painting, and light carpentry duties as assigned.
- Perform minor repair work to maintain safety and sanitation standards for apartments and common program spaces.
- Maintains equipment; reports needs for building or equipment repair to Supervisor and/or Administrator.
- Work with the Operations Manager to order or purchase supplies, parts, furnishings and equipment.
- Work with Operations Manager to maintain apartment units and work with vendors to order equipment and furnishings.
- Work with repair and maintenance vendors to prepare quotes for property maintenance and repair jobs beyond the scope of maintenance department.
- All equipment and supplies should be kept in appropriate storage areas, (i.e. subbasement, shed, janitors’ closet, etc.)
- Have a working knowledge to make sure all mechanical equipment is in proper working order. Check boiler, furnaces, and air conditioning equipment.
- Wash blinds, windows, and walls with prescribed solutions on a seasonal basis.
- Reports safety hazards to supervisor.
- Perform heavy cleaning when necessary.
- Make minor independent judgments based on prescribed procedures and policies when cleaning.
- Assist with outside property management including: cutting grass, pulling weeds, trimming shrubs, watering plants, shovel and snow removal and performs other related duties on the grounds as needed.
- Performs many varied custodial tasks necessary for the upkeep of buildings and grounds.
- Cleans and prepares all vacant apartments for tenants.
- Prepare breakfast and dinner for shelter guests as needed.
- Coordinate with Twin Cities Social Services for food deliveries of dinner and donations.
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness standards to comply with Department of health standards.
- Assist with special events meal planning.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required with two years of custodial experience.
- Experience working in a social service setting preferred.
- Demonstrate ability to perform both independent and in a team setting.
- Ability to accept supervision and work with a team of co-workers.
- Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete tasks with a minimum of direction.
- Ability to use Salvation Army approved word processing, spreadsheet, data base management, and graphics/desktop publishing software packages.
- Valid Driver's License. (Must meet the guidelines provided by the State of residence and the automobile insurance provider as pertaining to corps’ passenger vans/buses.)
- Must pass The Salvation Army background checks and meet the MVR driver’s qualifications.
- Willingness to support the philosophy, goals, objectives, and mission of The Salvation Army.
- It must be understood by the incumbent that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and also understood that the required Safe From Harm training be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
