Crescent Woolen Mills converts fibers into yarns sold to manufacturers of knitted and woven products. The textile operations performed by Crescent Woolen Mills include blending, carding, spinning, winding, doubling, and twisting. In addition, Crescent’s wholly owned subsidiary, Owen Glove Lining, manufactures knitted fleece linings for the safety, apparel and sporting goods industries.

Responsible for operating automatic doubler and twister machines. Watch for breaks in string and retie ends when needed. Record work performed, sticker cones for proper identification and package cones in boxes for shipping. Also responsible for quality, safety and housekeeping.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate automatic doubler and twister machines
• Read yarn tickets to assure proper yarn
• Follow instructions on how to construct a finished product
• Watch for end breaks and retie ends when needed
• Restart sections that are not running
• Inform supervisor when computer programming is required
• Keep machine clean and free from waste material at all times
• Clean around machine each shift and help clean area as requested
• Notify shift supervisor immediately when quality problems are detected
• Record work performed on yarn ticket form
• Perform changeovers on twister
• Sticker cones for proper identification
• Package (box) cones and put full boxes on strapping racks
• Use appropriate safety equipment and notify shift supervisor immediately of any hazards detected, any near miss accidents and any accidents
• Perform other duties as assigned or directed

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

• HS degree or GED preferred
• Past manufacturing experience preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

• Frequent bending/stooping, squatting, reaching above shoulder level, crouching and lifting (up to 60 lbs)
• Continual walking in a relatively confined area is required
• Frequent standing at floor level and above floor level on equipment
• Coordination of skills performed at heights no greater than three feet
• Exposure to extremes (90º F) in temperature
• Good vision is required, 20/20 or corrected to 20/20
• Frequent and continuous use of hands and arms
• Employees with sensitivities to dust may be exposed to airborne dust, silk and synthetic fibers and are encouraged to wear a mask to help filter out airborne fiber.
• A normal working day consists of a10 hour day, overtime when needed
• Work hours: Monday – Thursday, 5:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. with a half hour paid lunch break
