Life Science Facilities Technician (Brisbane, CA) Job at DENS Facilities
Working under supervision, this is an intermediate level position assigned to different operations and service departments. Performs routine maintenance work and assists other Maintenance Technicians in performing corrective work orders, preventative maintenance, and manual tasks such as moving equipment, offices and materials. This will be accomplished by performing on-site routine maintenance and assisting with duties including but not limited to the Essential and Intermediate Functions listed below. Individual will ensure that the facilities and lab space and lab equipment are kept in clean and consistent working order. This will be accomplished by performing routine maintenance and assisting with laboratory duties including but not limited to the Basic and Intermediate Functions listed below.
Intermediate Level Functions:
- Patch paint as required
- Basic knowledge and ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and plumbing issues
- Basic carpentry skills
- Hot/cold calls and maintenance
- Building automation systems
- Supports and assists clients and tenants, with building communications and work coordination
- Ability to work unsupervised
- Computer skills needed are: completing excel spreadsheets and work order systems***, report writing, correspondence with clients, and responding via email and text
- Creating work orders as needed
- Keep inventory – filtered or not, knowing names of basic items
- Autoclave monitoring and maintenance
- Decon Equipment assembly and disassembly
- Ordering and Requisitioning consumables and supplies
- Set up/assemble basic laboratory equipment
- Coordinating quotations with outside vendors
- Ensure seamless coverage for client site by training up designated new hires and allowing assigned coworkers to shadow
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly specific maintenance (i.e., fire extinguishers, eye wash, safety showers, generators, etc.)
Essential Functions
- Complies with all applicable codes, regulations and corporate policies/procedures related to building operations and work safety
- Performs and/or assists with corrective work orders and preventative maintenance work orders as directed
- Conducts daily rounds and documents meter readings as assigned
- Assists in moving offices
- Performs property-tending duties such as trash pick-up, bathroom clean-up/stocking, snow removal and sweeping/mopping
- Performs wall repair and painting
- Cleans areas around buildings (laboratory space, property grounds, halls, loading docks, garages, etc.)
- Have strong communication skills via text, email, telephone, and face to face. Respond to daily Client/Tenant requests and internal company requests in a timely, professional manner
- Prepare/receive packages and deliveries for Shipping/Receiving
- Basic abilities in carpentry and installation: mounting a shelf, installing a picture or whiteboards, and simple repairs
- Replaces ceiling tiles and light bulbs
- Maintain basic paperwork according to client/tenant needs
- Basic knowledge of building & lab management systems
- Alarm monitoring and management
- Monitoring automations systems
- Escort vendors and contractors
- Other duties as assigned
On-Call Status
Schedule subject to change, remaining flexible within reasonable notice
24/7 Response if applicable
Pre-Hire Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma
If hired directly into this level position, applicant must have two or more years of experience working in the following settings: laboratory, mechanical, wastewater, facilities maintenance, or construction.
Ability to follow orders given orally and in writing
Ability to complete tasks and paperwork with basic supervision
Computer skills (i.e., excel, word, outlook)
Physical Qualifications
- Manual dexterity sufficient to use hand tools and paint
- Ability to stand, crouch, and climb to perform repairs, use ladder, and perform various types of manual labor
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Vision (with correction) sufficient for reading, performing repairs and painting

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time non-exempt position. Days and hours of work vary according to the business demands.
Travel
The nature of our business has worksites in a number of locations in the Greater Boston area. We expect our employees to remain flexible, and travel between sites may be necessary as the business demands.
