- Valid State of Ohio Teaching Certificate/License appropriate to the position. (e.g. Multi-Age P-12, Library/Media Specialist)
- Ability to supervise/manage all aspects of the library operation on a daily basis including direct teaching and co-teaching experiences.
- Successful BCII and FBI background check.
Duties:
A. Administrative:
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal relations with students, teachers, administrators, and other school library/media specialist.
- Assists in helping students and teachers find needed information.
- Shares information and materials with other library/media specialists within the District as well as with other school systems.
- Applies principles of effective communications which reinforce positive behaviors in children and young adults.
- Assists in the development of a budget for the school library/media program when requested.
- Makes recommendations in hiring personnel and recruiting volunteers for the library/media center. Provides an orientation program for new students, teachers, and volunteers.
- Conducts staff development programs, when requested, demonstrating an understanding of the adult learner for volunteers, staff, and administrators.
- Creates an atmosphere conducive to learning.
- Establishes library/media center rules and disciplinary procedures consistent with building and district expectations.
- Maintains effective discipline with the library/media center.
B.
Instructional/Curriculum:
- Identifies, locates, and provides students and staff with services, media, and equipment needed to support curriculum.
- Effectively transmits information and ideas in verbal and written form concerning matters related to providing classroom instructions.
- Evaluates, selects and requisitions new media (both print and non-print) and technology accordance with the selection of instructional material and technology policy.
- Promotes use of technology in the library/media center and classrooms.
- Assists the staff, when requested, in their teaching of a comprehensive library skills program to help students develop basic information gathering and research skills.
- When requested plans individual or group instruction in media production and the use of audiovisual equipment.
- Promotes appropriate conduct of students using library facility and personal responsibility in the care of materials, equipment, and environment.
- Provides reference services for students and staff. Assists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials. Helps teachers to integrate media into instructional experiences for effective usage.
- Maintains a comprehensive and effective system for cataloging all library materials, and instructs teachers and students on use of the system.
- Attends meetings and serves on school improvement committees as requested.
- Reads and scans professional journals.
- Routes material of interest to staff members.
- Keeps current with educational trends.
- Able to cite variety of learning resources for students and teachers.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to the right of students and teachers to access information within the legal framework of copyright laws.
- Explains the effective use of misuse of learning resources.
D. Technical and Others:
- Orders, catalogs, classifies, and organizes materials.
- Supervises check-in, stamping, labeling, and filing of the materials.
- Supervises the withdrawal of obsolete and damaged items including the adjustment of inventory records.
- Maintains records of materials ordered.
- Plans circulation policies and procedures and keeps circulation statistics.
- Compiles records of library/media holdings for annual reports.
- Abide by the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the Warren City School District Board of Education pertaining to classroom teachers and the teaching process.
- Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the Building Principal and/or his/her designee.
