Library Adult Program Events Manager Job at Gwinnett County Public Library
Purpose:
The Library Adult Program Events Manager must have experience with procuring both local and national well-known AUTHORS that will present to the Adult Community. You must be able to coordinate a variety of engaging and relevant events and programs for the Library that target the Gwinnett County adult customer base. Primarily, this position will focus on fundraising, event planning, media relations, administering programs, networking with publicists, authors and developing community relationships, arranging speakers, approving speaker topics in alliance with the GCPL strategic plan. This position will oversee the programs by ensuring that both front end and back end activities run smoothly, to include TV crews, camera crews, set up, speakers, etc.
This position will supervise a staff of 2 - 3 employees, and all activities in the Adult Programming department. Must be a self-starter and possess effective networking and programming skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement library services for adults that foster exploration and discovery, with a focus on information literacy, readers' advisory, technology education, and lifelong learning.
- Cultivate relationships with local organizations, businesses, interest groups, and underserved populations in order to identify ways that the library can support these communities through outreach, services, and programming.
- Participates in identifying, contacting and confirming program speakers and moderators.
- Serves as a liaison between the program planning coordinators, speakers and other participants.
- Oversees the coordination of program logistics involving production, schedules, facilities, equipment, etc.
- Supervises and participates in the design, planning and implementation of system-wide library services and programs relating to events and outreach in the areas of author events for adults and those of all ages.
- Supervise Adult Programming staff to include prioritizing and assigning work; setting and communicating department expectations to team members, conducting performance evaluations; ensuring employees is trained and has the tools to do their jobs; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures.
- Promoting and maintaining a healthy and safe working environment.
- Evaluates department goals, select the right talent for the department, follow disciplinary process and making disciplinary recommendations.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Education/Training/Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field and three (3) years of Marketing, Communications, or Public Relations experience;
Two (2) years of experience working in a public library and one (1) year of supervisory experience;
Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licensing Requirements: A valid State of GA driver's license.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Must have knowledge of Program Administration principles; Marketing principles and practices; Program Evaluation principles; basic Library Operational principles and practices; Public Relations principles; Supervisory principles; Budgeting principles; and Customer Service principles. Grant Writing knowledge and principles is a plus.
- Must be skilled in fundraising, event planning, media relations, administering programs, media relations, evaluating programs, operating a computer and applicable software, providing excellent customer service both externally and internally.
- The Adult Services Manager must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and receive work direction.

Pay: $47,826.13 - $78,915.05 per year
