Position Purpose
The Legal Services Program (LSP) at Vivent Health provides free legal assistance to individuals living with HIV/AIDS throughout the state of Wisconsin. The main goal of LSP’s legal work is to assist clients with achieving and maintaining stable health by reducing legal barriers that may be detrimental to their well-being. Legal services focus on HIV Stigma and Discrimination, Access to Health Care, Stable Housing, and End of Life Planning. If unaddressed, these issues may prevent an individual from remaining adherent to HIV treatment.

When clients are in need of legal services, it is imperative that the response is efficient, compassionate, and effective. As the primary initial point of contact for intake, The Legal Program Assistant plays a vital role in the daily operations and overall success of the program. This position supports a busy legal department that serves a diverse client base.

The Legal Program Assistant is responsible for legal intake and follow-up, connecting people in need of legal services with resources, and working with program staff to manage their caseload and keep clients engaged in services. This position is also responsible for additional administrative duties in support of the department. Essential Functions

  • Independently manage intake inquiries for LSP. Intake duties include, but are not limited to, answering calls on the legal intake line, face-to-face intake meetings with clients, monitoring and tracking all incoming requests for services, returning all calls, reviewing all inquiries, and appropriately responding by providing referral information, connecting the individual with other services within Vivent Health, or assigning the case to LSP attorneys.
  • Administrative duties related to intake and client retention. Duties include but are not limited to, assisting attorneys with client correspondence, case file management, and organization of departmental documents and files.
  • Adhere to all Vivent Health and LSP policies, procedures, and workflows.
  • Assist attorneys with daily operations and projects as they arise.
  • Treat all clients with respect and dignity and demonstrate an unwavering commitment to excellent customer service and client confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of customer service or office experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a legal practice setting.
  • Ability to understand and identify legal issues and know how to professionally and efficiently communicate with prospective clients. Prior experience with legal intake is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the HIV/AIDS patient population, and/or an eagerness to learn about this community.
  • Must be dedicated to the overall Mission and Vision of Vivent Health and be comfortable working with a diverse group of people.
  • Excellent customer service skills are required.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the HIV/AIDS patient population, and/or an eagerness to learn about this community.
  • Must remain flexible and possess the ability to operate well both as a team player and on individual tasks.
  • Possess good analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to confidentiality.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish language (bilingual) is a plus.
