In FY22, Franklin Cummings Tech was the academic home to almost 900 learners. Half of those learners were students enrolled in traditional credit-bearing programs. The balance enrolled in a combination of continuing education and contract education programs. In the coming years, the College seeks to boost the number of students in credit-bearing courses, while also expanding continuing education and contract education so that we are educating more than 1,000 learners a year by FY25.
Position Summary:
Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology is looking to hire an electrician to teach postsecondary students the electrical trade. If you like working with students, have 5-years’ experience working in the field, possess journeyman and master licenses, and have a high school diploma or GED then we want to talk with you about this amazing opportunity. We will provide support as you transition into an exciting and rewarding career as an electrical adjunct lecturer.
Courses such as Circuit Theory, Electrical Design & Layout, National & Massachusetts Electrical Code, Electrical Machinery, and Low Voltage Systems & Controls provide the technical focus for an associate degree program, but also serve as the educational hours that are required for eligibility to sit for the Massachusetts Journeyman Electrician licensing exam.
The Massachusetts Board of State of Examiners of Electricians mandates that this position be filled by an individual who holds either a Journeyman or Master Electrician license in the state of Massachusetts. Other candidates need not apply. A master’s license and some teaching experiences are preferred.

Through teaching, participation in institutional initiatives, and pursuing professional development, the faculty member contributes to the mission, outcomes, and strategic plan of the department and the College. Key Responsibilities of Part-Time Faculty:

  • Teach 10 hours per week; M/W or T/Th, days or evenings.
  • Availability to meet with students when needed.
  • Use of course texts, outlines, and other curriculum materials in accordance with college and department policies. Any deviations from the course syllabus must be approved by the department chair.
  • Respond to chair and administrative requests in a timely manner and complete all responsibilities effectively; prompt in keeping appointments, attending meetings (when possible), starting classes on time.
  • Respond to students in a timely manner
  • Evaluate student achievement and provide timely feedback while maintaining accurate student records in the CANVAS LMS. Provide adequate support to students and maintain a respectful, professional rapport.
  • Participation in communications with the college and department. This includes utilizing the college Dropout Detective warning system to alert advisors when students falter.
  • Demonstrate effective teaching including preparation, meeting course goals, organization and presentation of material, student involvement, and classroom management.
  • Collaborate with other college departments (academic, student affairs, enrollment, and development) for the mutual benefit of all.

Qualifications:*

  • Valid Journeyman electricians' licenses in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Five years of industry experience in the electrical field and,
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications include:

  • Valid Master electricians’ licenses in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • One-year teaching experience in electrical technology.
  • An earned associate degree from a recognized college or university with major study in electrical technology, education or a related field.

Type of Appointment:
A part-time appointment to teach day or evening courses two days a week, that would begin immediately, with expectation of renewal for the following semester on satisfactory performance.
