Summary:
The City of Lincoln is seeking a full time Leave Manager to join a dynamic Risk Management team in Human Resources. This person is responsible for providing leadership in the development, implementation, and coordination of employee leave of absences and accommodation programs with a strong emphasis on collaboration with internal and external stakeholders and exceptional customer service.
The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in Leave of Absence and Disability programs, and be well-informed of market and legislation changes, particularly those arising under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), state and local leave laws, and short-term or long-term disability plans.

How Will You Contribute:
Manage administration and process flows for all protected leave including Family Medical Leave, Protected Family Leave and Disability programs and provide strong expertise as it relates to legislation, education, policy and practice.- Communicates with employees regarding their needs for leave and/or modified work schedules, disability accommodations and returning to work from leave to ensure understanding these benefits and the processes.
- Ensures processing documentation is accurate and complete; create/update documentation, as necessary to reflect changes in the employee’s situation, new offerings, etc.
- Supervise small team and lead initiatives within Risk Management to include worker's compensation and insurance operations.
- Engages in interactive conversations with applicants/employees, obtains and reviews medical documentation, coordinates with managers/supervisors, and partners with legal and Employee Relations Managers, when necessary, to manage Americans with Disabilities Act accommodation requests, including requests for leave from work and changes to the position.
- Act as a resource to employees and management on LOA policies, procedures, and federal and state requirements; as well as to aid in employee and manager’s understanding of benefits offered and eligibility requirements through individual and group meetings or training sessions.
- Collaborate with HR Business Partners to address escalated employee leave matters and recommend strategic solutions.
- Partner with workers compensation to provide coordination of FMLA, disability accommodations or modified duty.
- Maintains complete and accurate records of leave and accommodation requests in accordance with specified legal requirements and documentation of best practices.
- Manage data in accordance with record retention policies and procedures and state and federal laws and regulations.
- Coordinate/manage third party vendors, as appropriate.
- Complete other tasks and projects, as assigned.
Who You Are:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field or equivalent years of experience.- Three years of leave administration experience.
- Well versed in all applicable leave related laws and regulations including the complexities of FMLA, military leave, Worker Compensation, ADA and mandated state/local leave processes.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with exceptional communication.
- Contributes to strategic decision as well as daily functions.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
- Completion of specialized certification or training on FMLA/leave administration a plus.
To be eligible for insurance benefits, employees must work at least 30 hours per week.
To be eligible for the retirement plan, employees must work at least 20 hours per week.
Temporary, seasonal, and unclassified employees are not eligible for benefits.
