Lead Teacher
Compensation: Hourly – $15/hr

Job Description:

A Lead Teacher is responsible for the academic, social-emotional growth and development of children in their care, who are typically infants, toddlers to pre-kindergarten age. The primary function of Lead Teachers is to work with parents, administrators and other teaching staff to improve student’s experience and meet teaching objectives. Lead Teacher’s are also responsible for planning, evaluating and improving the physical environment of the classroom to create opportunities that meet the changing needs of developing children.

Fort Courage Lead Teachers report directly to the Executive Director (ED) and/or Supervisors.
They are expected to provide positive and professional adherence to the Fort Courage mission, while instilling valued trust and reliance to our community of families.

In This Role You Will:

● Work in a team environment
● Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents and caregivers regarding student growth and progress
● Ensure that each family has the opportunity to build strong relationships with teaching staff.
● Create a fun and safe learning environment
● Create weekly plans and implement an age-appropriate curriculum that nurtures and stimulates all domains of each child’s development in their care.
● Provide a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that reflects the children’s learning and growth.
● Ensure child-to-staff ratios are met at all times.
● Engage, encourage, motivate and inspire children and families.
● Maintain the health and safety of all students.

Required Qualifications:

Lead Teacher’s are also responsible for planning, evaluating and improving the physical environment of the classroom to create opportunities that meet the changing needs of developing children.

A Lead Teacher must meet the following minimum licensing requirements:

● Be at least 18 years of age
● Meet immunization requirements
● Pass criminal background check
● Sign a health attestation

● Complete facility overview on-the-job training.
● Be current on the ECP Practitioner Registry
● Have current certification for infant, child, and adult CPR and infant choking response, and standard first aide. CPR certification must be completed in a hands-on setting.
● Successfully completed teacher orientation
● Have the following training / experience: o Minimum 2 years experience in an early childhood program such as licensed or registered child care facility, or Head Start, plus 32 hours of ECP training. o Level 2 or higher on the ECP Practitioner Registry

Preferred Qualifications:

● Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
● Minimum of two years childcare and supervision related experience
● Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all demographics of the community.
● Possess the ability to maintain composure during stressful situations.
● Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
