This role is responsible for preparation of complex tax returns and related reports, schedules, and work papers. This role also oversees critical tax functions and projects such as maintenance of tax records and evaluation of non-routine transactions and technical tax and accounting research. It will lead, establish, and support routine tax responsibilities, project and process improvement efforts, and other duties as assigned. Responsibilities will include lending support to the Company’s processes around depletion, depreciation and amortization, an area of area of high impact to the organization. A successful individual in this position is a subject matter expert within their area of responsibility, has a comprehensive knowledge of other areas of federal and state taxation, and strong knowledge of financial reporting for taxes. A successful individual in this role, demonstrates initiative, effectively communicates to various stakeholders, and actively leads and develops others within area of responsibility. The individual in this role can work autonomously, can see the big picture, and can prioritize competing individual and team responsibilities.

Essential Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review complex tax returns, tax correspondence, tax reconciliations and tax Maintains the tax trail balances.
  • Support the Company’s processes around depletion, depreciation, and amortization.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and conclude on complex, non-routine transactions.
  • Assists with preparation of income tax provision. Identify and mitigate risk to ensure effective internal control structure.
  • Provide training and development within area of responsibility.
  • Reviews new accounting pronouncements and new tax laws for required changes in Company's tax
  • Respond to tax audit requests and coordinate audit
  • Lead and/or participate in department or cross functional projects/initiatives.
  • Support development, execution, and analysis of performance metrics within functional

Role-Specific Technical Knowledge & Skills:
Leading completion of recurring tax projects and tax returns. Strong knowledge of tax law and tax principles, along with supporting tax applications and processes, related to oil and gas taxation, including depletion, depreciation, and amortization. Demonstrates proficiency in tax literacy.

Education:*
Bachelor’s degree in tax, accounting, or related field of study. Master’s degree in tax, accounting, or related field of study is a plus.

Typical Experience:
Minimum 8+ years relevant work experience required (10+years in lieu of education). 4+ oil and gas accounting experience preferred. CPA is a plus. APA, CIA, CFE, CGMA or other relevant professional credentials and certifications a plus. Public Accounting Experience is a plus.

Schedule: Primary remote with the ability to come to our Denver office on short notice

Salary* Range:* $84,000-$116,000 (based on experience) plus annual discretionary bonus, medical, dental, vision, 401k, PTO, etc.
