GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Lead Material Handler supports the manufacturing facility by performing work in one or more of the following areas: loading and unloading trucks, sorting and stocking product, reviewing incoming orders, operates a hand grinder, use of magnetic drills, materials transfer, forklift operation, and work with other heavy manufacturing equipment to support various functions within the production facility. This position adheres to all safety guidelines. This position works under the direction of the Production leader or other manufacturing leaders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Direct, delegate, and work with co-material handlers to achieve production goals.

- Loading and unloading trucks.

- Review accuracy of incoming orders.

- Route incoming orders appropriately for stocking and storage.

- Lift material and parts, including but not limited to unloading parts from the burn table.

- Work with and around heavy manufacturing equipment, including but not limited to powered equipment.

- When requested perform other manual work including cleanup activities, garbage removal, facility painting, and snow removal.

- Assist team members with moving and handling parts, manually or by crane use.

- Assist welders with setting up and supplying parts to the designated locations and removal of completed work from said designated location.

- Assist painters in loading and offloading parts in the paint booth and staging area, either manually or with forklift.

- Operate a forklift to load and unload pallets, load and unload freight trucks, and move materials within facility.

- Practice and adhere to all safety requirements and guidelines. This includes but is not limited to: forklift operation; proximity to other powered tools, personnel, equipment, and other workplace factors.

- Grinding responsibilities such as utilize electric or pneumatic hand grinders to clean pre-welded parts, welded parts, and steel parts.

- Drilling responsibilities such as utilizing magnetic drill to bore holes.

- Inspect tools prior to use to ensure efficient use and safety.

- Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).

- Safely operate crane and/or forklift if trained and assigned.

- Daily safety inspection i.e. crane, forklift, equipment

- Perform work in a safe manner and complete all required safety inspections.

- Actively participate in cross training and continuous improvement assignments.

- Work cooperatively with coworkers including training and knowledge sharing.

- Learn new skills, techniques and equipment operation as assigned.

- Maintain clean and organized work area conditions and comply with safety requirements.

- Receive direction from team lead or other designated leader.

- May work overtime as production needs require.

- Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, and SKILLS:

Mandatory: A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a manufacturing environment operating heavy manufacturing equipment, including but not limited to powered equipment. Proficient understanding of safety requirements. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with management and co-workers. Must be able to understand English language and be understood. Must be able to lead, delegate, and work directly with co-material handlers. Forklift and overhead crane operation, as trained and assigned.

Desired: Associate’s degree or certification in technical specialty or a minimum of five (5) years experience in machine operation role in a manufacturing environment specializing in hydraulic systems and components or other related industrial product. Read, write, and speak English language and be understood.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Delegate responsibilities among the Material Handlers, train new Material Handlers, and shut down the facility at the end of the shift.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Physical activity includes standing, pulling, walking, pushing, reaching above shoulders and lifting up to 50 pounds. If work demands require lifting in excess of 50 pounds, the use of a mechanical device or initiation of a two-person lift is required. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Perform activities in a well-lighted and well-ventilated area. May be subject to changes in temperature and exposure to above normal noise levels, wet floors, electrical equipment, vibrations, and chemicals.
