Role Overview
At the heart of Fisker’s visionary product lies a state-of-the-art powertrain, and you can play a central role in its delivery. The Lead Electrical Engineer, HV Battery Applications will have to lead & be responsible for battery pack EE architecture, EE component sizing and selections & will also be responsible for the Battery Disconnect Unit. The lead engineer is also responsible for the end-to-end sizing, selection & management of the electrical design and production release of the battery pack assembly electromechanical systems and related activities relative to electrical architecture, wiring, PCB's and busbars. In addition, this position requires communicating with the battery team members, including Design Engineer, Thermal Engineers, and Electrical Engineers to meet all battery engineering performance criteria. Fisker is a fast-moving technologically focused startup, and in this context, you will need considerable flexibility and adaptability to deal with the rapidly developing requirements at the leading edge of EV Thermal and Powertrain implementation.
Responsibilities
-
Apply technical knowledge to the on-time delivery of work products through the product development life cycle for each project.

Own the design & development of efficient designs for components & sub-assemblies.

Work in concert with manufacturing engineers in the development of processes & tools supporting manufacture and assembly.

Lead product development for HV/LV wiring system starting at concept development – generation of requirements, scope definition, cost estimation, and feasibility studies.

Collaborate with vehicle and powertrain engineering to ensure the flow and balance of requirements to meet system needs.

Develop part and assembly model and drawing of HV/LV wiring, including GD&T

Select and source electrical components for HV battery system (connectors, contactors, fuses, etc.)

Work with supply chain and supplier quality to ensure parts are delivered on time, with quality, by ensuring the appropriate engineering analyses and tests are completed.

Component definition, sizing, selection, and design of cell electrical interconnections & bussing, module and pack high current and high voltage electrical interconnections & bussing, fusing, sensing, and control circuitry.

Commodity responsible engineer for Battery Management System (BMS) Hardware and interfaces to relevant battery subsystems.

Work closely with Systems Engineers and CAE Engineers to prove out design concepts prior to pack prototype builds.

Key contributor to electrical system DFMEAs/PFMEAs, DVP&Rs and Product & Process design reviews.

Lead supplier evaluation and development for responsible commodities, in collaboration with purchasing.

Support prototype system builds by ensuring parts are on time and that issues are resolved in a timely manner.

Other duties as assigned.

Track and analyse electrical system changes.

Responsible for EMC development & verification
Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree.

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in high voltage (>350V) electrification product design or product development.

Background in automotive system hardware engineering (development and/or release)

Demonstrated knowledge in the application of engineering principles in electrical mechanical systems.

Experience with HV/LV harness design
-
Solid skills on CATIA or other CAD tool

Familiar with the HV safety and electrical standards/regulations

Experience with PCBA HW / ECU development and troubleshooting, BMS specific experience preferred. Demonstrated understanding of the system operating principles and software functions of said ECU(s) to be an effective interface to Systems and Software Engineering counterparts.

Experienced with the design, handling, and manufacture of high voltage lithium-ion battery systems.

Knowledge of EMC/EMI design standards and ability to interpret and troubleshoot test results.

Educated on common automotive & industry standards.

Familiar with the product design process.

Preferred Qualifications

Master or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field

Knowledge of automotive HV battery system

Project experience with HV/LV Wire harness design of the HV Battery Pack

Project experience with electrical components (contactor, fuse, and current shunt) for vehicle applications

5+ years of experience executing design & development of HV components, subsystems and systems related to battery pack & electric vehicles power electronics.

5+ years of experience working on validating and analysing lithium-ion battery electrical performance.

High voltage safety training

Experience in user level or better software skills - MATLAB, LabVIEW, CANalyzer and Microsoft Programs

Must be willing to travel both domestically and internationally, as required.

Must be willing to work overtime and on weekends where needed to meet deadlines and company goals.

Must be able to lift 25 lbs. unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, walk, and/or run.
Expected Salary Range: $83,160.00 to $231,660.00 per year.
Additional compensation: Salary is one part of total compensation which includes bonuses, equity awards as applicable, and benefits. An employee is eligible to participate in Fisker’s equity program, subject to the rules governing such programs.
Benefits: Fisker provides comprehensive medical, prescription, dental, vision, and disability insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Fisker covers most of the premiums for employees.
The salary offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including market location, job-related knowledge, education/training, certifications, key skills, experience, internal peer equity as well as business considerations. Fisker reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position within the salary range listed, taking into account the wide variety of factors listed above.
