SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Operates the Road Runner Transit and ICB vehicles in a safe professional manner to provide dependable, friendly public transportation for residents and guests. Supervise drivers and dispatchers, remove fares from bus when necessary and cover routes as needed. Fill in as needed when the Clerical Dispatcher, or the Assistant Director is unavailable, or absent. Assist with the bus maintenance program and oversee all driver training programs.
PERFORMANCE CRITERIA:
These are the most significant performance factors involved with this position and they will be the principal factors on which the employee will be evaluated:
1. Operate RRT Transit vehicles on a fixed, DAR and or ICB route, adhering to published times and operating in accordance with federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and laws.
2. Duties could include demand response trips to accommodate special needs; be willing to assist special needs customers onto any RRT Transit vehicle. Assist disabled passengers as required by SoCoCAA/RRT transit policies.
3. Record mileage, riders, rider characteristics, and fuel purchases daily; gather and maintain all information as required by the Transit program.
4. Begins all RRT routes on time and follows an appropriate schedule; provide reliable, expert service and enforce rules related to safe transit operation.
5. Assuring that all SoCoCAA/RRT Transit vehicles are properly pre-trip, prior to beginning the drivers shift and at end of each post-trip shift; complete and maintain required information on appropriate inspection forms and sign-off.
6. Will be subject to federal, state, and SoCoCAA random drug and alcohol testing policy and procedures.
7. Maintains cleanliness of SoCoCAA/RRT transit vehicles, including but not limited to: bus washing, picking-up safety belts off floor, sweeping, and cleaning windows when SoCoCAA/bus cleaners are unavailable.
8. Be knowledgeable of the SoCoCAA/RRT transit schedule and the area, including activities and events, in order to answer customer inquiries in a courteous and patient manner at all times.
9. Maintain a neat, clean appearance and be able to deal effectively and courteously with the general public. Maintain friendliness with passengers and be able to increase their knowledge of Road Runner Transit and ICB services and changes.
10. Must work holidays and Saturdays on short notice and be flexible for shift coverage as needed (cover due to illness, vacations, etc.).
11. Ability to positively promote SoCoCAA/RRT transit services.
12. Ability to adjust to emergency SoCoCAA/RRT schedule changes due to vehicle shortages, staffing shortages, or other varying and unforeseen circumstances that may happen.
13. The Lead Driver will assistance in the SoCoCAA/RRT Assistant Director in maintaining accuracy of all SoCoCAA vehicle inventory required in COTRAMS
14. Oversee and supervise all day to day operations when the Division and Assistant Director is unavailable.
15. Will be in charge of training employees and training records for all drivers.
16. Will assist the Director with administering preventative maintenance programs and other maintenance issues with all vehicles to ensure proper operations.
17. Will assist with collecting and counting money from the buses as necessary.
18. Ensure safety equipment is complete and available on all buses.
19. Willingly perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
20. Will assist in updating and maintaining all RRT transit vehicle and driver files to ensure proper compliance with DOT/and Federal compliance standards.
Requirements:QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school graduate or GED required.
- Three (3) years of driving experience preferred
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience preferred
- Must have and maintain at all times, a minimum, current Colorado Class “B” Commercial Drivers License (CDL), with “P2” passenger endorsement.
- Prefer some mechanical knowledge of gas, diesel engines and routine maintenance.
- Must be insurable by SoCoCAA insurance carrier, good driving record required.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen; must pass criminal history and background checks.
- Must be able to relate to and work well with associates and the public.
- Must have, or within 3 months, be able to obtain CPR and 1st aid certification and remain current thereafter.
- Must be physically able to perform all duties of the job and pass a physical exam as required by the DOT. Position occasionally performs heavy physical labor requiring ability to lift, carry, push, pull and move heavy objects or materials. Physical demand for strength and endurance; requires lifting over 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Preference may be given to qualifying local applicants familiar with the Southern Ute Indian Reservation and the surrounding Ignacio community.
