JOB OVERVIEW:

Operates pressers, small dryers and towel folding machines. Process clean hotel and Food and Beverage linens in accordance with hotel’s standards.


REPORTS TO: Laundry Manager and Laundry Supervisor.

SUPERVISES: N/A.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Laundry and linen rooms, linen chute area.
  • Job involves working:
    • under variable temperature conditions (or extreme heat or cold).
    • under variable noise levels.
    • indoors.
    • around fumes and/or odor hazards.
    • around dust and/or mite hazards.
    • around chemicals.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Staff in Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Uniformed Hotel Personnel, Hotel Management, Stewarding, Banquet Set-up and Engineering.

External: Laundry/dry-cleaning service personnel/vendors (chemical company representatives).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures and standards.
  • Respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
  • Anticipate guests’ needs,
  • Maintain positive guest relations at all times.
  • Resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction.
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas
  • Use cleaning chemicals according to OSHA regulations and hotel requirements.
  • Adhere to all Health Department, sanitation and safety regulations.
  • Set up and organize work station with designated supplies and equipment; replenish as needed throughout the shift.
  • Sort all stained/damaged items and determine status for rewash or discard; maintain continuous inventory of discard items.
  • Remove all debris on floors after each sorting.
  • Transport cart to proper work area for finishing.
  • Operate the ironing and folding machines. Check the cleanliness and condition of articles while processing through the machines; separate damaged/stained articles.
  • Fold cleaned articles and stack into designated amounts by type and size. Place stacks in specified areas for distribution.
  • Issue clean table linens and service towels/rags to Food and Beverage personnel.
  • Report faulty equipment, damaged linens, shortages, maintenance needs, safety hazards and problems to supervisor.
  • Remove lint and debris from dryer filters and change filters.
  • Transport trash containers to dumpster; empty and clean accordingly. Adhere to recycling procedures.
  • Breakdown and clean work areas/equipment.
  • Re-stock linen carts for Housepersons.
  • Fold bedspreads, blankets, bed pads, shower curtains and bathrobes.

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Complete inventory of stock as assigned.
  • Work with supervisor, improve quality or standards, and increase productivity or capacity of machines

  • Previous experience in similar position.
  • Knowledge of laundry equipment.
  • Knowledge of finishing techniques for fabrics.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

Essential:

  • Exert physical effort in transporting up to 75 pounds.
  • Endure various physical movements throughout the work areas.
  • Reach overhead.
  • Ability to work/stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, and climb continuously.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring sustained repetitive motion (i.e. sorting, shaking, pulling, lifting and folding linen).
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures.
  • Ability to see, hear and to call out in an emergency or urgent situation (i.e. mechanical problems).
