Thomas & Hutton has an opening for an experienced Survey Crew Chief to join our Survey Department in Durham, NC.

Survey Crew Chiefs are responsible for directing crews of two or more people in successfully completing a variety of field assignments. It is a supervisory position that requires high impact decisions and directing the work of others while continuing to perform the same technical duties as other crew members. The work can be both mentally and physically challenging and must be performed in a wide range of conditions.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: 3+ years experience as a Survey Crew Chief preferred. Prior experience conducting boundary and topographic surveys required. Experience with boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys. Experience with transportation and utility corridor surveys a plus. Experience with Carlson SurvCE and Robotic total stations a plus.

Skills:

• This position will require driving. A valid driver’s license is required.
• Working knowledge of the following equipment: rods, compass, transits, levels, tribrachs, theodolites, total stations, data collectors, and tripods.
• Strong math skills
• Written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to perform strenuous physical activity in a wide range of temperatures and work environments.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work in an environment that may contain venomous snakes and insects such as ticks, red bugs, wasps, bees, hornets, yellow jackets, etc.
• Ability stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to work with a wide range of temperatures.
• Ability to climb hills and walk long distances.
• Ability to traverse different types of terrain.
