Clinical Laboratory Assistant

Provides phlebotomy and basic laboratory testing for the patient population, as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical and Support Duties

• Collects and/or prepares human samples for analysis in a timely, efficient manner.
• Stocks laboratory supplies in the laboratory and on the nursing units.
• Performs waived and moderate complexity testing under the supervision of a Medical Technologist, Laboratory Manager, Cardiopulmonary Manager or Laboratory Director.
• Uses computer to log in patients samples, perform inquires and print summaries.
• Performs basic preventative maintenance, such as temperature checks.
• Exhibits knowledge of basic development of patients as noted above.
• Provides age specific data on patients as noted above.
• Communicates with the family or significant other of the patients, as noted above, when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Training: On-the-job training or completion of clinical lab assistant training program.

Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience as a phlebotomist preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must work well with patients.
• Must be able to develop and maintain good interdepartmental relations.
• Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
